Spencer Zecchini's late game heroics lift the Muskingum men's lacrosse team to a 9-8 overtime victory over Marietta.

  • Freshman Drew Schneider also etched his name into the Muskingum record books with 170 face-off wins on the season. This sets a new program record for face-off wins in a season, breaking the previous record set by Tucker Hass '18 during the 2017 season.
  • Schneider finishes the season with a 61.8% face-off win percentage to set a new program record. Schneider won 170-of-275 face-offs this year, breaking the record mark of 49.8% set by Hass in 2017.
  • Schneider also finished with 130 ground balls on the year, breaking the previous program record of 89 held by Ohlen Rudy '18 during the 2018 season. 130 ground balls also places Schneider in fourth place for career ground balls after just one season.
  • With 37 caused turnovers apiece on the year, seniors Douglas Gorski and Luke Swartz are now both tied for second place in program history for caused turnovers in a season.
  • Swartz now sits in second place in program history for caused turnovers in a career with 84, while Gorski ranks third all-time with 71.
  • Gorski also now sits at 136 ground balls for his career, placing him fourth all-time in program history, while Swartz finishes with 120 ground balls, placing him fifth.
  • Sophomore Trevor Connolly tallied 192 saves in net for the Muskies this season, moving him into third place all-time for saves in a single campaign.
  • With 42 ground balls this season, senior Hazen Powell moves into third place on the career ground balls list in program history.
  • Powell also finishes his Muskie career with 30 assists, placing him in second place all-time for assists in a career behind Muskie teammate Spencer Zecchini.
  • Powell has 146 ground balls for his Muskie career, placing him third on the career ground balls list.

How it Happened

  • After Marietta held a 3-2 advantage through the first quarter, the Muskie defense held the Pioneers to zero goals in the second period.
  • Muskingum managed to score two goals in the second frame, and held a 5-3 lead at halftime.
  • Marietta outscored the Muskies 4-1 in quarter three to take a 7-6 lead, but Muskingum battled back to tie the score at 8 apiece and push the game to overtime.
  • After neither team found the net in the first three and a half minutes of the extra period, sophomore Spencer Zecchini scored a goal with 1:02 remaining to give Muskingum the lead.
  • Behind stout Muskie defense, Marietta was unable to even the score, and Muskingum left Marietta with a clutch 9-8 victory.
