Baseball celebrates Senior Day vs. Mount Union

The Muskingum baseball team celebrated their 2022 senior class versus Mount Union on Sunday. The Muskies dropped game one of the doubleheader, but rebounded for an 8-4 win in game two to conclude their season.

Game 1

How it Happened

  • Muskingum found the scoreboard in the first inning off a leadoff solo home run from Devin Ryan. Ryan's homer was his eighth of the season.
  • The Muskies plated their final two runs of the game in the eighth inning. The first run came off a passed ball, while the second one came from an RBI groundout from junior Allex Santacroce.

Inside the Numbers

  • The Muskies were led by Ryan who finished 5-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI.
  • Junior Dominic Gorence went 2-for-5 from the plate, while senior Trey Yoder finished 1-for-5 with a run scored.
  • Senior Jake Norris made the start on the mound for the Muskies in game one. Norris tossed four and two-third innings and gave up 11 earned runs.
  • Sophomore Noah Moser pitched four and one-third innings in relief, only allowing one earned run on the day. 

Game 2

How it Happened

  • After Mount Union scored one run in the top of the first inning, Muskingum plated two of their own off a two-RBI triple from senior Chayce Lundell.
  • The third inning saw Muskingum erupt for six runs to open up an early 8-1 lead over the Purple Raiders.
  • In the inning, Muskingum scored two runs off a single from sophomore Gavin Hawk, one run off a single from sophomore Quinten Collins, two runs off a double from senior Trey Yoder, and one run off a Mount Union throwing error.
  • Dominate pitching on both sides didn't allow another run until the eighth inning when Mount Union scored one run. The Purple Raiders also tallied two more early in the ninth inning to trim the Muskie lead down to 8-4.
  • After senior Drew Eaches pitched a dominate eight and one-third innings, sophomore Clark Jennings came into the ballgame and nailed down a bases loaded save to secure the Muskies' 8-4 win. 

Inside the Numbers

  • Junior Dominic Gorence finished game two with a line of 3-for-4 from the plate. Gorence tallied two runs scored for the Muskies as well.
  • Senior Chayce Lundell went 3-for-5 on the game with two RBI's and a run scored, while senior Devin Ryan went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
  • Sophomore Gavin Hawk finished 2-for-4 with two RBI's and a run scored, while sophomore Quinten Collins finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
  • Senior Trey Yoder tallied a 1-for-3 line with two RBI's, and junior Allex Santacroce added one RBI and one run scored as well.
  • Senior Drew Eaches nearly went the distance, pitching eight and one-third innings and striking out seven Purple Raider batters.
  • Sophomore Clark Jennings collected his third save of the season after getting two outs with the bases loaded to secure the Muskie win.
