Baseball earns split at Wilmington

The Muskingum baseball team split a road OAC-doubleheader with Wilmington on Sunday. The Muskies captured a 10-8 win in game one, and dropped the nightcap to the Quakers.

The Basics

Game 1

How it Happened

  • After Wilmington scored three runs in the first inning, Muskingum was able to find the scoreboard in the fourth off a two-RBI double from sophomore Nate Keiser.
  • Wilmington managed to score two more runs in the fourth inning, but Muskingum answered in a big way, scoring seven runs in the sixth inning to take a 9-5 lead.
  • Muskingum's explosive sixth inning was highlighted by a three-run homer from junior Devin Ryan, and RBI single from sophomore Ryan Schwartz, an RBI single from junior Dominic Gorence, and a sacrifice fly from Keiser for his third RBI of the contest.
  • Wilmington managed to get three more runs and trim the Muskie lead to 9-8, but Muskingum got an insurance run back off an RBI double from sophomore Wyatt Reeder in the ninth inning.
  • Despite having runners on first and second in the ninth inning, Wilmington was unable to capitalize, and the Muskies secured the 10-8 win.

Inside the Numbers

  • The Muskies were led by junior Devin Ryan who finished 2-for-6 with a three-run homer, three RBI's, and two runs scored.
  • Junior Dominic Gorence finished with a 1-for-5 line, while tallying two RBI's and and one run scored.
  • Sophomore Nate Keiser went 1-for-2 on the day with three RBI's, two walks, and a run scored; while sophomore Ryan Schwartz went 1-for-3 with three walks, two runs scored, and an RBI.
  • Sophomore Wyatt Reeder went 1-for-1 for the Muskies with an RBI while pinch hitting.
  • Senior Jake Norris earned the win on the mound for Muskingum. Norris pitched seven innings, giving up five earned runs and striking out two Wilmington batters.
  • Sophomore Clark Jennings earned his second save of the year after pitching two scoreless innings in relief.

 

Game 2

How it Happened

  • Muskingum first got on the scoreboard in the third inning off an RBI ground out from senior Trey Yoder.
  • The Muskies scored their final run of the nightcap off an RBI single from sophomore Andy Eurez. Eurez's single scored sophomore Ryan Schwartz.

Inside the Numbers

  • The Muskies were led by sophomore Andy Eurez who finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.
  • Sophomore Ryan Schwartz tallied a 2-for-3 line with a run scored, while freshman Austin Lippolis finished 1-for-3. Senior Trey Yoder tallied an RBI in game two as well for Muskingum.
  • Sophomore Jaxon Rinkes started on the mound for Muskingum. Rinkes gave up six earned runs on the day.
  • Sophomore Noah Moser and senior Drew Eaches pitched in relief for the Muskies.
