Muskingum Volleyball Splits at day two of the Classic Columbus Battle

The Muskingum volleyball team split matches at the second day of the Classic Columbus Battle, losing against Hanover 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 23-25, 20-25) and winning against Ohio Wesleyan 3-0 (26-24, 25-15, 25-16).

The Basics

  • The Classic Columbus Battle was hosted by Capital.
  • Muskingum now stands 3-1 overall.
  • The Muskies will play again Friday, September 7 at 6:00 p.m. against Grove City at the Kenyon Tournament.

Hanover Match

Final Score: 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 23-25, 20-25)

  • As a team, Muskingum registered 50 kills, 45 assists, and 85 digs.
  • In the first set, the Panthers were able to secure an early lead of 17-13. The Muskies chipped away at the differential, but the Panthers took a 8-7 run securing the 25-22 victory.
  • The Muskies and Panthers fought neck in neck in the second set until Muskingum was able to take the lead with a score of 20-16. The Muskies continued to fight and registered the final points to take the set.
  • The battle continued into the third set where neither team took more than a two-point lead early on. After a Hanover timeout, the tempo of the game began to change and the Panthers registered back-to-back points securing a 25-23 victory over the Muskies.
  • In the fourth set, the Panthers came out hot and took an early lead of 16-12. The Muskies fought hard to close the gap, but the Panthers tallied a 9-8 surge securing the set with a final score of 25-20.
  • Sophomore Maddie Sikorski and senior Jordan Youngs both added 12 digs.
  • Sophomore Erin Dickson secured a team best 40 assists with a hitting average of .300.
  • Sophomore Brooke Fatheree logged a team high 17 kills.

Ohio Wesleyan Match

Final Score: 3-0 (26-24, 25-15, 25-16)

  • The Muskies claimed a straight-set victory over The Battling Bishops.
  • As a team, Muskingum logged 47 kills, 44 assists, and 59 digs.
  • In the first set, the Muskies and The Battling Bishops fought closely. Muskingum was able to register the last two points of the game securing the 26-24 victory.
  • In both the second and the third set, Muskingum controlled the court. The Muskies dominated and were able to secure a 25-15 win in the second set and a 25-16 win in the third.
  • Freshman Carson Miller recorded 13 digs with a hitting average of .435.
  • Sophomore Brooke Fatheree registered 11 kills.
  • Sophomore Erin Dickson logged 36 assists and had a hitting average of .375.
