Volleyball wins five-set thriller

The Muskingum volleyball team won a five-set thriller (25-20, 25-18, 23-25, 22-25, 15-9) against Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday night in the Recreation Center. The battle marked the third straight five-set match the Muskies have played.

Freshman Taylour Fatheree slammed down a total of 15 kills and had four blocks at the net for Muskingum. Junior Brooke Scott added 12 kills, along with senior Alexa Abrams and sophomore Katie Hunt recording 11 kills each for the attack.

Muskingum's starting freshman setter Taylor Mathews directed the attack with 23 assists. Freshman Laura Hill was also aided the attack with 16 assists.

The backcourt was under control by freshman libero Deidre Prince, who recorded a season-high 30 digs. Abrams added 20 digs and junior Lane Browning also had 15 digs.

Muskingum ended the match with a total of 54 kills, 45 assists and 108 digs.

Ohio Wesleyan (6-2) was led by Iris Anderson and Brianna La Croix who each had 14 kills. Tierra Copley helped the attack with 24 assists and Erin Cannon registered 33 digs.

The Muskies (6-4) return to the court when they travel to the Wooster Kilt Classic on Friday, September 12. Their first game is scheduled against Franciscan University at 6:00 p.m.
