Women's tennis splits home action against Waynesburg and Cedarville

The Muskingum women's tennis team hosted Waynesburg and Cedarville on Saturday at Cambridge City Park. The Muskies beat Waynesburg, 5-4, and fell against NCAA Division II Cedarville, 9-0.

The win against Waynesburg marked the Muskies second triumph against the Yellow Jackets this fall. Muskingum trailed 3-0 following doubles play. The Muskies charged back in singles action, winning five of six matches to claim the win. 

Freshman Sarah Ann Hafner won at first singles 6-1, 6-2, and junior Evelyn Pauquette won 6-4, 6-2 at third singles. Junior Kaylee Anstaett claimed a 6-3, 6-2 win at fourth singles, and junior Emma Bachman won 6-2, 6-2 at fifth singles. Junior Jane Boyer rounded out the strong Muskie effort with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at sixth singles.

Against Cedarville, junior Gracie Andrews and freshman Scarlett Martell dropped a heartbreaking 7-6 (7-4) battle at first doubles. 

The Muskies next host Capital on Friday, October 1. The match is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Cambridge City Park.
