Women's tennis wins OAC thriller against rival Capital

The Muskingum women's tennis team won an Ohio Athletic Conference thriller against rival Capital on Thursday afternoon, 5-4.

The Muskies grabbed the early momentum in the pivotal match by winning first and second doubles. 

Junior Elizabeth Knauss and senior Elisabeth Kuhn won a clutch 9-8 (7-3) battle against Monique Hanayik and MacKenzie Archibald at first singles.

Freshman Brittany Besancon and sophomore Lindsay Brindack claimed an 8-2 win at second doubles against Samm Smith and Amy Stammen.

Muskingum notched the victory with wins at third, fourth and fifth singles.

Brindack sealed the match win with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 triumph at third singles against Archibald.

Kuhn aced Smith at fourth singles 6-0, 6-0. Junior Kristen Chandler disposed of Desiree Molina at fifth singles 6-1, 6-4.

The Muskies now stand in eighth place in the league. The top eight team advance to the OAC Tournament at the end of the regular season. 

Muskingum next plays at John Carroll on Saturday, April 22. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
