Women's Soccer shuts out rival Marietta

The Muskingum women's soccer team registered its fourth shut out win of the season at Ohio Athletic Conference rival Marietta on Wednesday afternoon, 2-0.

The Muskies (9-3-1, 2-2) struck first in the 10th minute on a 40-yard shot by junior Lauren Hambel. The goal was the first of the season for Hambel, who also scored her only other career goal at Marietta in 2013.

Muskingum, who out shot Marietta in the opening frame 10-8, held a 1-0 lead at the break.

In the second half, the Muskies added their final tally in the 85th minute on freshman Natalie O'Dell's first career goal. O'Dell blasted a shot from outside the box to the far post to beat Pioneer keeper Brittany Wolfe.

Muskingum ended the outing with 16 shots and three corner kicks. Sophomore Morgan Price and senior Moriah Mathies led the squad with three shots each. Senior Carissa Myler and junior Summer Setliff each had two shots.

The Muskie defensive presence of Myler, Hambel, sophomore Samantha Harbert, freshman Lauren McKell, freshman Rachel Streib, sophomore Sarah Landuyt and sophomore Stephanie Price all helped aid sophomore keeper Liz Mitchell in the shut out victory. Mitchell made eight saves between the pipes.

Marietta (1-12-1, 1-3) had 21 shots and five corner kicks. Sydney Willis led the team with six shots, while Stevie Reilly and Lauren Morain each had four.

Brittany Wolfe played all 90 minutes in goal and made seven saves and allowed two goals.

Muskingum next hosts Otterbein for Homecoming on Saturday, October 18. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in McConagha Stadium.
