Women's Soccer notches huge road win at Heidelberg

The Muskingum women's soccer team notched a huge road win at Heidelberg on Saturday afternoon, 4-1.

The Muskies (8-3-1, 1-2), whom trailed briefly 1-0, erupted for four unanswered goals to spoil Heidelberg's Homecoming contest.

Senior Moriah Mathies led the attack with a two-goal performance. Mathies has now tallied 11 goals on the year, which ranks second all-time for a season. Additionally, Mathies has recorded 30 points (11 goals/8 assists) this year, which also ranks second all-time for a season.

Senior Carissa Myler scored her third goal of the season on a direct kick in the 13th minute to give the Muskies a 2-1 lead.

Muskingum's first goal was an own goal that was setup by sophomore Morgan Price's shot. Price was credited with an assist on Mathies' last goal. The assist was Morgan Price's fifth.

The Muskies ended the outing with a 16-15 edge in shots, while Heidelberg (3-9-1, 0-3) held an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Mathies led the team with six strikes, including five on frame. Myler, junior Hailey Dickey and Morgan Price each added three shots.

Sophomore Liz Mitchell played all 90 minutes in goal and made six saves, including one on a penalty kick, and allowed one goal. The win was the seventh of the campaign for Mitchell.

Kimberly Keenan scored the Heidelberg goal in the second minute. She ended the game with two shots. Darby Moloney led the squad with four shots.

Kenzie Lundqvist played in frame and made five saves and allowed four goals.

Muskingum next plays at rival Marietta on Wednesday, October 15. Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m.
