Muskies drop battle against Capital

The Muskingum women's soccer team lost against Ohio Athletic Conference rival Capital on Tuesday night, 2-0.

Capital (9-3, 2-0) used a Muskie own goal to grab a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute. The tally came after a Muskie defender deflected a loose ball in the box past Muskie keeper Liz Mitchell. Mitchell ended the contest with a season-high 12 saves.

The Crusaders completed their scoring with an early strike in the second half. Mary Bushee scored in the 47th minute on a shot from outside the box on the left side of the field to the far post.

Muskingum (7-3-1, 0-2) mustered six shots on the evening, with sophomore Morgan Price registering three and senior Moriah Mathies with two.

Capital logged 24 shots, with Becca Cartmill leading the surge with seven and Emily Krause adding three.

Kim Leitch posted the shutout after playing all 90 minutes between the pipes.

Muskingum returns to the field on Saturday, October 11 at Heidelberg. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
