Muskies shutout MSJ on Kick for a Cure Day

The Muskingum women's soccer team shutout Mount St. Joseph on Saturday afternoon in McConagha Stadium, 3-0. The contest marked Muskingum's participation in Kick for a Cure to help raise awareness for Breast Cancer.

With the win, the Muskies (5-0-1) set the school record for longest unbeaten streak (6) in a season, which was set in 1998 and 2007.

The Muskies struck early in the fourth minute after sophomore Samantha Harbert beat several defenders and blasted a shot past the keeper. The tally was the second of the season for Harbert.

Muskingum made it 2-0 in the 34th minute on freshman Miranda Bishop's goal. The strike was set up by senior Moriah Mathies' cross.

Mathies completed the scoring in the 88th minute on a rebound shot off of a Bishop blast.

The Muskies ended the contest with a 22-16 advantage in shots. Mathies led the team with nine shots, while junior Summer Setiff added four and sophomore Morgan Price and Bishop each recored three.

Sophomore keeper Liz Mitchell played all 90 minutes in frame and made four saves en route to securing her second shutout of the season.

Mackenzie Money and Megan Grubb led the Lions with four shots each.

Lindsey Sturwold played the opening 45 minutes in frame and allowed two goals and made four saves. Michelle Hessling played the second half in goal and allowed one one and made four saves.

Muskingum hits the field next against Penn State-Beaver on Wednesday, September 17. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
