Muskies battle to 2OT tie

The Muskingum women's soccer team opened its season with a 1-1 double overtime tie at LaRoche on Friday.

After a scoreless opening half, Muskingum struck in the 49th minute on a shot by sophomore Morgan Price inside the box. The tally was setup off a double assist from senior Carissa Myler and junior Kelsey Overley.

LaRoche tied the contest in the 59th minute on a free kick from Alex Rogers from three feet outside the box.

Muskingum ended the outing with 12 shots. Senior Moriah Mathies led the squad with seven strikes, while Morgan Price had three. The Muskie attack was slowed by 11 offside calls.

Sophomore keeper Liz Mitchell played all 110 minutes between the pipes and made three saves and allowed one goal.

LaRoche was paced by Vanessa Ceravolo who registered five shots. The Redhawks ended the outing with 17 shots.

Destiney Davis played the entire game in goal and made six saves and allowed one goal.

Muskingum next travels to Chatham on Sunday, August 31. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
