Francis delivers thrilling Parents' Day ovetime win vs. Defiance

Senior Raven Francis delivered the game-winning goal in overtime to propel the Muskingum University women's soccer team to a thrilling 3-2 win against Defiance College on Parents' Day. 

With the win, Muskingum moves to 5-1-1 overall. The Muskies next host Ohio Valley University on Saturday, September 21. Game time is slated for 6:00 p.m. in McConagha Stadium and will be feature Live Stats on the Muskie Sports Network.

Muskingum struck early in the third minute when junior Moriah Mathies found the back of the net on a loose ball in the box. The goal was the fourth of the year for Mathies.

The Muskies extended their margin to 2-0 in the 34th minute after freshman Stephanie Price headed home a Mathies corner kick. The goal was Price's third of the year, while the assist was Mathies' fifth of the campaign.

The Yellow Jackets rallied to tie the game with a goal in the 81st and 83rd minutes of play off of two long direct kicks by Lindsay Bubnick.

Francis brought the Muskies screaming onto the field with her game-winning chip shot in the 94th minute of play. The goal was set-up by sophomore Elise Zimmerman's pass. The tally was the third goal of the season for Francis and the assist was the first of the season for Zimmerman.

Muskingum ended the game with a 20-12 advantage in shots and 5-1 edge in corner kicks.

Junior keeper Melissa Emmerich played 84 minutes in goal and made two saves to earn the win. Freshman Liz Mitchell played nine minutes between the pipes and allowed two goals.
