Wrestling opens season with strong showing at W&J

The Muskingum wrestling team opened its season with a strong showing at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational on Saturday. The Muskies ended the event with three top five finishes.

The Basics

  • Location: Washington & Jefferson, Pennsylvania - Washington & Jefferson College
  • Finish: Muskingum scored 64.5 points to place ninth

On the Mat

  • Muskingum was led by senior Jordan Burkholder who finished first in the 125-pound weight class. Burkholder recorded a mark of 4-0 with three technical falls and a major decision in the championship match. 
  • In the 141-pound weight class, junior Sammy Southers placed third with a 2-1 record. He won his second match with a pin at the 2:28 mark.
  • Senior Tanner Walker placed sixth in the 165-pound weight class with a record of 1-1.
  • In the 285-pound weight class, senior Antonio Zapata finished fourth. Zapata went 2-1 with two wins by decision.
