The sophomore tandem of Antonio Zapata and Jordan Burkholder led the Muskingum wrestling team at the Waynesburg Invitational on Saturday.
The Basics
- Location: Waynesburg, Pennsylvania
- Standings: Muskingum finished 7th in the 11-team field
On the Mat
- Zapata placed first in the 197-pound weight class after posting a perfect 3-0 record. He recorded a fall over Hayden Good of Johns Hopkins at the 1:02 mark and notched a 3-2 decision against Gage Finegan of Heidelberg. Zapata won the bracket with a 3-2 decision against Evan Hickey of Ohio Northern.
- Burkholder took second place in the 125-pound weight class after going 2-1. He recorded a fall over Cody Shultz of Thomas More at the 2:12 mark and had a 6-3 decision against Seth Transue of Ohio Northern. Burkholder fell in the championship bout 3-2 in double overtime against Tristan Buxton of Waynesburg.
- Sophomore Tanner Walker placed fifth in the 165-pound bracket. He went 4-2 with a fall, tech fall, major decision and decision.
- Junior Anthony Cole-Young finished sixth in the 184-pound weight class. He ended the day with a 3-3 mark, which included a fall.
