Wrestling Defends the M with season-opening victory against Lourdes

The Muskingum wrestling team defeated NAIA foe Lourdes University 23-17 in its season-opening dual match at the Anne C. Steele Center Wednesday evening.

The Basics

  • Note: The dual was the season and home-opening contest for the Muskies.

On the Mat

  • Sophomore Jordan Burkholder led off the night for the Muskies claiming an 8-2 decision over Ray Porter in the 125-pound weight class. 
  • Sophomore Toby Warrington won by technical fall with a score of 19-2. He went head-to-head with Jacob Supina in the 141-pound weight class.
  • The Muskies found themselves trailing 11-8 after surrendering the 149-pound weight class and the 157-pound weight class.
  • Sophomore Tanner Walker put the Muskies back on top with a first period fall against Daniel Kruzel at the 2:55 mark of their 165-pound bout.
  • At the 174-pound weight class, freshman Griffin Cooley notched a 4-0 decision over Joshua Brown.
  • The Muskies clinched the victory in the 197-pound weight class as sophomore Antonio Zapata collected the win via forfeit to give Muskingum a 23-14 lead.
