20th-ranked Yellow Jackets buzz past Muskies in OAC opener
The Muskingum women's basketball team lost against the 20th-ranked Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets in its Ohio Athletic Conference opener on Saturday, 89-49.

  • This marked the Ohio Athletic Conference opener for the Muskies. 
  • Before the start of the game, Muskingum held a moment of silence for the 30th anniversary of the 1989-90 women's basketball tragic van accident. Monday, November 18, marked 30 years since Michelle Simpson, 18, of Bristolville, Ohio, a freshman forward-center, and Mary Ann Smith, 20, of Coshocton, Ohio, a sophomore student assistant, passed away in the heartbreaking van accident on the way to a tournament at Frostburg State University. 
Inside the Numbers 
  • Muskingum ended the contest shooting 17-of-61 (27.9%) from the field, which included hitting just 5-of-23 (21.7%) from behind the arc.
  • Junior Sam Filiaggi guided the Muskies with a team-best 17 points, shooting 6-of-13 (46.1%) from the field.
  • Freshman Rileigh Simpson registered a team-high eight rebounds and grabbed two steals. 
  • Freshman Emily Hartshorn recorded three steals. 
  • The Yellow Jackets had four players that locked in double-digit points. 
  • Sydney Snyder directed the Yellow Jackets with a game-high 16 points, shooting 5-of-8 (62.5%) from the field and 3-of-4 (75.0%) from the free-throw line.
  • Riley Schill tallied 12 points, while Gabby Garrett amassed 11.
  • Baldwin Wallace ended the contest shooting 26-of-60 (43.3%) in the field and 26-of-36 (72.2%) from the free-throw line.
Game Highlights
 
In the first quarter, the Yellow Jackets came out hot and built a quick 11-4 lead. Baldwin Wallace rode the momentum to a 21-7 advantage at the end of the opening frame. The Yellow Jackets continued to swarm in the second quarter en route to taking a 52-14 lead into the break.
