Schrader, Mayer, Powers, and Meade named softball captains

Muskingum softball head coach Kari Winters has announced the selection of captains for the 2020 season. Senior Jennifer Schrader, junior Shaena Mayer, junior Riley Powers, and junior Jaelyn Meade will direct the Muskies during their 2020 spring campaign.

Scrader, returning from an injury last season, has played in a total of 53 games for the Muskies. She has registered 12 runs on 19 hits. Schrader has also collected 12 RBIs and recorded two doubles throughout her career.

Mayer has seen action in 39 games for the Muskies, recording 15 runs on 12 hits. Last season, Mayer collected a career-high 11 runs on seven hits, recording six RBIs and ending the season with a .350 batting average.

Powers led the Muskies last year with 24 runs on 43 hits, ending the season with eight doubles, 30 RBIs, and a .333 batting average.

Meade, a Secibd Team All-OAC honoree, ended the year ranked second in the conference in home runs (10) and RBIs (40). She also recorded a career-best 47 hits, cranked six doubles, and amassed five triples en route to a scorching .362 batting average.

This season, the softball team was picked to finish first in the OAC Softball Preseason Coaches Poll. The Muskies received a total of 75 points in the poll, which included five first place votes.

The Muskies will kick off their spring campaign at THE Spring Games in Clermont, Florida. Muskingum opens the season on Sunday, March 1, against York and Wartburg.
