Softball conquers OAC opponent John Carroll
The Muskingum softball team conquered Ohio Athletic Conference opponent John Carroll on Saturday. The Muskies locked in the opener 5-3, and claimed game two, 4-3.

GAME ONE
 
In the first inning, sophomore Karsyn Shaffer locked in an RBI single up the middle to give the Muskies an early 1-0 lead. Quinn Sobieszczanski scored on a Muskie error in the bottom of the third inning to tie up play at 1-1.
 
The contest remained tight until the fifth inning when sophomore Jaelyn Meade fired up the Muskies with an RBI single. Freshman Haley Hawk then singled to left field, to score Meade and give the Muskies a 3-1 edge on the Blue Streaks. 
 
John Carroll retaliated with two runs on four hits in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the score at p3-3. In the sixth inning, freshman Hannah Miller scored on an error by the second baseman to slide past the Blue Streaks with a score of 4-3. 
 
In the top of the seventh inning, Hawk blasted a home run to lock in the 5-3 victory for the Muskies. 
 
Hawk went 2-for-4 at the plate and led the Muskies with two RBIs and cranked one home run. Shaffer and Meade both chipped in one RBI, while senior Krissy Hughes tallied one double. 
 
Sophomore Hannah Duff locked in her sixth victory of the season for the Muskies. Duff pitched a total of 2.1 innings, with two strikeouts. 
 
Lindsay McKnight went 2-for-4 at the plate and guided the Blue Streaks with one RBI. Quinn Sobieszczanski and Elizabeth Fraas each chipped in one double. Jessica Cook took the loss for John Carroll after pitching a complete game ten-hitter, with nine strikeouts. 
 
GAME TWO
 
Senior Rachel Eberling cranked a three-run home run in the top of the first inning to give the Muskies an early 3-0 lead. John Carroll secured one run on one hit in the bottom of the second inning to trim the deficit to 3-1. 
 
In the third inning, Quinn Sobieszczanski singled up the middle to get the Blue Streaks within one run of the Muskies (3-2). Kristen Jesberger blasted a home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie up play at 3-3.
 
Meade notched an RBI single to center field in the top of the seventh inning to send Hughes home and clinch the 4-3 win for Muskingum. 
 
Eberling led the Muskies with a team-best three RBIs and tallied one home run. Meade chipped in one RBI, while Hawk and sophomore Riley Powers notched one double each. 
 
Duff registered a victory in the circle for the Muskies after pitching five innings, allowing one run on two hits, with six strikeouts. Duff secured her seventh victory of the season. 
 
Kristen Jesberger guided the Blue Streaks with one home run and one RBI. Jenn Patterson took the loss for John Carroll after pitching seven innings, allowing four runs on six hits.
