Softball sweeps Wittenberg for eighth straight win

The Muskingum softball team swept Wittenberg on Tuesday afternoon. The Muskies won game one 12-4 in six innings and captured the nightcap, 2-0. Muskingum has now won eight straight games.

GAME ONE

Senior Rachel Eberling secured the victory in the circle for the Muskies. She tossed 5.1 innings and allowed four runs on eight hits, with five strikeouts. The win was the sixth of the year for Eberling.

Sophomore Riley Powers fired up the Muskies in the top of the first with a single to right field, to score senior Krissy Hughes. Eberling then gave the Muskies a 3-0 lead with a two-run home run.

The Muskies extended their lead with a run in the second inning and used a five-run fourth to take control. Sophomore Jaelyn Meade highlighted the fourth-inning surge with a two-run home run. Muskingum completed its scoring with a run in the fifth and capped off the scoring with two runs in the sixth.

Muskingum ended the game with 12 runs on 13 hits. Hughes helped lead the charge going 4-for-5 with two doubles, a triple and two runs scored. Powers went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and one run, while Meade went 3-for-4 with a home run, triple and three RBIs.

Wittenberg's Mary Britton took the loss after tossing 2.1 innings and allowing four runs on five hits. 

GAME TWO

Sophomore Hannah Duff pitched a complete game seven-hitter, with four strikeouts. The win was the third of the season for Duff.

The Muskies grabbed the lead in the fifth inning when sophomore Karsyn Shaffer belted a two-run double to score sophomore Alexia Dowdle and Meade. Muskingum ended the outing with two runs on six hits. Shaffer ended the game going 2-for-3 with an RBI double, while Meade went 2-for-3 with a double and run scored.

Katelyn Niswonger took the loss for the Tigers. She pitched all seven innings and allowed two runs on six hits. 

UP NEXT

The Muskies next host Ohio Wesleyan on Wednesday, March 20 for their home opener. Game one of the scheduled doubleheader is slated for 3:30 p.m.
