Softball splits OAC DH at rival Marietta

The Muskingum softball team split an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader at rival Marietta on Sunday. The Muskies won the opener 6-3 and fell in game two, 3-2

The Basics 

  • Records: Muskingum (9-15 overall, 1-3 OAC), Marietta (9-13 overall, 1-3 OAC)
  • Location: Marietta, Ohio - Marietta Field 
  • Attendance: 215

Game One

  • Junior Haylea Debolt dealt the win for Muskingum pitching 4.2 innings with one strikeout. Debolt improved to 2-3 on the season surrendering one run on three hits.
  • Senior Dakota DeAmicis led the Muskies at the plate going 1-for-4 with two RBI's and a homerun. 
  • Senior Jessica Matthews also tallied a homerun in the contest, registering her second of the season. Matthews finished the game 1-for-1 with a RBI.
  • Junior Melissa Maiorano and sophomore Cassie Thomas finished with one RBI each. 
  • Marietta scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to claim the early 2-0 advantage.
  • Muskingum rallied in the top of the third as Matthews and DeAmicis both hit a homerun to give the Muskies the 3-2 lead. 
  • Muskingum added an insurance run in the fourth inning, one in the fifth inning and one in the sixth to secure the win.
  • Kaitlin Klinchock led the Pioneers going 2-for-4 with a RBI.
  • Marietta plated three runs on nine hits. 

Game Two

  • Marietta used a seventh inning rally to grab the game two victory.
  • The Muskie bright spot came in the top of the third inning as sophomore Krissy Hughes and Maiorano both recorded RBI doubles to put Muskingum on top, 2-0. 
  • The Pioneers capitalized on a pair of Muskie miscues in the bottom of the seventh en route to the win.
  • Hughes paced the way for Muskingum going 2-for-3 with a RBI.
  • Maiorano ended the game 3-for-4 with a RBI.
  • Sophomore Rachel Eberling took the loss for Muskingum pitching 6.1 innings allowing three runs on eight hits.
  • Marietta was led in the circle by Alison Kach throwing 2.1 innings surrendering three hits.
  • The Pioneers scored three runs on eight hits.

  • Muskingum returns to action Wednesday, April 5 as they host Wilmington. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
