Softball hits past Bethany

The Muskingum softball team used a series of timely hitting to capture the doubleheader sweep of Bethany Wednesday afternoon. The Muskies won the opener 2-1 and completed the sweep with a 12-4 win in game two. 

The Basics

  • Records: Muskingum (8-14 overall), Bethany (6-12 overall)
  • Location: New Concord, Ohio - Donna J. Newberry Field
  • Weather: sunny and 63 degrees

Game One

  • The Bethany bright spot came in the top of the fourth inning as they scored the game's first run on a homerun by Kayla Dinsmore. 
  • Muskingum rallied scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh following RBI's by senior Dakota DeAmicis and sophomore Cassie Thomas to secure the win, 2-1.
  • DeAmicis led the Muskies at the dish going 1-for-3 with one RBI.
  • Senior Haley Dotson (5-5) collected the win in the circle pitching a complete game surrendering one run on six hits.
  • As a team, Muskingum tallied two runs on seven hits.
  • Bethany finished with one run on six hits.
  • Dinsmore led the Bison going 2-for-3 with a RBI.
  • Cassie Weiss (5-6) tossed the loss pitching 6.2 innings allowing two runs. 

Game Two

  • The Muskingum bats exploded in game two as they scored 12 runs on 15 hits.
  • Seven different Muskies recorded hits in the contest. 
  • Sophomore Krissy Hughes led Muskingum at the plate going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI's.
  • Junior Melissa Maiorano, DeAmicis and junior Haylea Debolt all finished with two RBI's each.
  • Sophomore Rachel Eberling (2-5) recorded the win pitching four innings surrendering three runs on four hits. 
  • The Bison were led by Emily Folk going 1-for-2 with two RBI's.
  • Sam Binkley tossed the loss for Bethany throwing 6.2 innings giving up 12 runs on 15 hits.
  • Muskingum jumped to the early 3-0 advantage as they scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning.
  • The Bison responded plating three runs in the top of second before Muskingum reclaimed the lead in the bottom half of the inning, 6-3.
  • The Muskies capitalized in the bottom of the fourth inning scoring five runs on four hits.

  • Muskingum returns to action Saturday, April 1 as they travel to Ohio Athletic Conference rival Marietta. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
