Men's tennis ends season with tough loss at Marietta

The Muskingum men's tennis team ended its season with a tough 6-3 loss at rival Marietta on Wednesday afternoon.

Marietta gained the early advantage in doubles play. The Pioneers took first doubles 8-1 and then held off a Muskie charge at second and third doubles. The Muskie tandem of freshman Brenton Franks and junior Micah Keith fell 8-6 against Bryce Emerick and Will Watson at second doubles. The Muskie third doubles team of junior Gordie German and junior Caleb Patton slipped in heartbreaking fashion against Brandon DeCicco and Alex Hogan, 9-8 (7-3).

In singles action, the Muskies won third, fourth and fifth singles. Franks beat Watson at third singles, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-5), while Keith dispatched of Emerick, 7-5, 6-1. Patton rounded out the Muske effort with a 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 1-0 (10-2) triumph at fifth singles against DeCicco.

Muskingum ended the season at 2-9 overall and 1-7 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
