Men's soccer suffers heartbreaking OT setback

The Muskingum men's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking overtime loss against Capital on Tuesday night in McConagha Stadium, 1-0.

The Matchup

  • Records: Muskingum (3-8 overall, 0-2 OAC), Capital (4-7 overall, 2-0 OAC)
  • Location: New Concord, Ohio - McConagha Stadium

The Game

  • Capital notched the game-winning goal in the 95th minute on a header from Hunter Stiger off a free kick from 20-yards out. 
  • Muskingum dominated play and peppered the Capital goal with shots in the opening 30 minutes of play but was unable to find the back of the net.
  • Freshman Gage Toy and freshman Chase Michael Hilliard led Muskingum with five shots each.
  • Senior Brett Hanna and junior Antonio Meehan aided the Muskie attack with three strikes each.
  • Muskingum ended the outing with a 23-20 edge in shots and an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Mario Suarez led the Crusaders with five shots and Stiger added three shots. 
  • The outing marked the third straight overtime loss for the Muskies, whom have fallen in overtime in four of their last five games.

In the Net

  • Freshman Gabriel Kral played the entire game in frame and made six saves and allowed one goal.
  • Justin Niswonger made three saves en route to posting the shutout.
