The Muskingum men's golf team opened its 2016-17 season with a third-place finish at the Mount Union Invitational on Sunday-Monday. Junior Jacob Van Leeuwen earned medalist honors shooting a career-best 68 in the final round.
The Basics
- Muskingum shot a two-day total of 610 (310-300).
- The invite was played at the Alliance Country Club.
- The course was a par 70 and 6,420 yards long.
- The University of Mount Union hosted the event.
On the Course
- Van Leeuwen led the Muskies with a 145 (77-68) earning medalist honors in the 38-golfer field.
- Senior Luke Janci finished tied for sixth with a two-day total of 152 (77-75).
- Senior Austin Wilkinson claimed a ninth-place finish shooting a 153 (78-75).
- Freshman Nathaniel Bennett opened his collegiate debut with a 160 (78-82), finishing 19th overall.
- Sophomore Gordie German rounded out the Muskie scoring with a 166 (80-86).
- Mount Union won the team title with a 604 (300-304).
