Doug Smith serves as Muskingum's head men's and women's bowling coach and in 2025-26 will be entering his 14th year with the program.

In the 2024-25 season, Smith led the Muskies to another dominant season. Smith guided the Muskingum Men's Bowling team once again to an appearance at the ITC National Championships after the team won the USBC Sectionals for the first time in program history. The Muskies have now made it to the ITC National Championships for two years in a row while being led by Smith. The Muskingum Women's Bowling team won four tournaments this season and capped things off with an OBC Conference Title. The women finished ranked 17th at the end of the season in the USBC Power Rankings and the 2nd ranked Club Team in the country. The 17th place finish is the highest in school history. The men finished 18th in the Power Rankings and continue to be ranked in the top 20 in the country.  They were the 3rd ranked Club Team in the country. Under Smith's leadership this season multiple Muskies achieved honors that ranged from All-OBC, All-American, Academic OBC, Academic NCBCA, and a Player of the Year.

Smith led the Muskies to a historically dominant 2023-24 campaign. The Muskingum's Men's Bowling team finished the historic year with a 5th place finish at the ITC National Championships. Finishing off an impressive season by becoming the first 16-seed to knock off a No. 1 seed in the first round of the tournaments 50-year history. Smith also led an ample amount of award winners on the men's side, including multiple All-OBC award winners, multiple All-American award winners, and multiple NCBCA Academic All-Americans. He also guided the second Muskie player to ever qualify for ISC's, whom also earned Honorable Mention NCBCA All American and 1st Team CTBCA All American honors under Smith's leadership. The Muskingum Women's Bowling team finished out a historic campaign under Smith's direction by winning their first Collegiate Club National Championship. Smith, who earned a nomination for the 2024 Women's Coach of the Year, led the women's program to its most decorated campaign in the form of players receiving All-OBC honors, First and Second Team All-American honors, and NCBCA Academic All-American honors. Smith also helped guide the 2024 Rookie of the Year and the Most Valuable Player of the All-Tournament Team at the Collegiate Club National Championships. The women's program also added a ninth-place finish at Sectionals and were the third-ranked club team in the nation. A truly historic season for the Muskingum bowling program under Smith's leadership.

Smith guided the Muskies to a highly successful 2022-23 season. The Muskingum Men’s Bowling team concluded its historic year with a club national championship and a Muskie bowler qualifying for the USBC Intercollegiate Singles National Championships in Las Vegas, Nevada. Additionally, Smiths’ student-athletes also earned spots on the All-OBC team for their exceptional performances and earned Academic All-OBC Honor Roll accolades and NCBCA Academic All-American honors for their outstanding performances in the classroom.

He has led the Men and Women to consecutive Collegiate Club National Championship Tournaments (Men 9 and Women 10) as well as qualifying for USBC Sectionals and the OBC Championships.

The men and women have won the OBC regular season twice in the last five years. The men and women have been Runners-up in the OBC Championship Tournament in the post-seasons of 2019-20 (Women) and 2020-21 (Men) when there was a post-season tournament.

Prior to arriving in New Concord, Smith was the head men's and women's bowling coach for Zanesville High School from 2008-16 where he led the girls to three state championship tournaments, including a third-place finish in 2012-13. He also led the boys to two state championships and a third-place finish in 2015-16.

Smith is a United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Silver Certified Coach, a member of the USBC Coaches Association, Club Team Bowling Coaches Association, and a member of the National College Bowling Coaches Association. Smith is the founder of the Ohio Bowling Conference, which has become the largest collegiate bowling conference in the nation and was also a four-time finalist for National Club Women's Coach of the Year.

Smith resides with his wife of 44 years, Jill. Smith has two children, Aaron and Andrew, and two grandchildren.
