Muskies drop road contest to Heidelberg

The Muskingum men's basketball team dropped a road-OAC contest to Heidelberg, 75-66.

The Basics

  • Records: Muskingum (5-16 Overall, 2-12 OAC), Heidelberg (16-3 Overall, 11-2 OAC)
  • Location: Seiberling Gymnasium – Tiffin, Ohio

How it Happened

  • After falling behind 6-0 early on, the Muskies rattled of 12 straight points to grab a 12-6 lead in the first half.
  • Muskingum held onto their lead for the majority of the first period, but the Student Princes jumped ahead 33-32 with 1:13 remaining until halftime.
  • Heidelberg would add two more points before the break, pushing their lead to 35-32 at halftime.
  • Out of the break, both teams played back-and-fourth basketball for the opening few minutes.
  • However, Heidelberg used a 14-4 run over a five-minute span midway through the second half to open up a 16-point lead.
  • Heidelberg held onto their double-digit lead for much of the remaining half, until the Muskies trimmed the Student Prince's lead to 66-58 with 3:17 left in the game.
  • Muskingum cut the Heidelberg lead down to four with under three minutes left, but it wasn't enough as the Student Princes held on for their 75-66 win.

Inside the Numbers

  • The Muskies were led by senior Alex Masinelli who tallied 23 points and five assists.
  • Freshman Zachary Chatmon recorded a career-high 19 points, and he also pulled down 13 rebounds.
  • Sophomore Bradley Russell and freshman Zaveon Croff both added six points for the Muskies.
  • Heidelberg was led by Emmanuel Perdue with 21 points.
  • On the night, Muskingum shot 26-of-63 (41.3%) from the field, while Heidelberg went 26-of-66 (39.4%).
  • Heidelberg scored 17 fast break points, compared to six for Muskingum.
