Muskingum basketball junior guard Marcus Dempsey has been named Division III Academic First-Team All-America and Team Member of the Year for NCAA Division III Men's Basketball by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Dempsey, a business management major with a 3.89 grade-point average, earned his second Academic All-America accolade this year after receiving Third Team Academic All-America honors in 2018. Dempsey is also the first-ever Muskie to receive the prestigious Team Member of the Year award.

Dempsey led the Ohio Athletic Conference and ranked second nationally in Division III averaging 30.6 points per game. He also averaged 5.3 rebounds and a career-best 4.2 assists per contest. He set career-high marks for total points in a season (764), three-point field goals made (77), free throws made (195), free throws attempted (235), free throw percentage (.830), steals (39), rebounds (132) and assists (104). The OAC recognized Dempsey for his stellar play with First Team All-OAC honors and OAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week accolades. He ended his junior campaign with 2,118 career points, which ranks first all-time at Muskingum and 10th in OAC scoring history.

Dempsey was recently recognized for his hard work and dedication in the classroom by being named OAC Scholar-Athlete of the Month for January. He was also honored with Division III Academic First Team All-District accolades by CoSIDA in February.

To be eligible for selection to the Academic All-America team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 grade-point average, appear in at least 50 percent of their team's games and be named to a CoSIDA All-District Team.
