Men's Basketball suffers a loss to Mount Union
The Muskingum men's basketball team suffered a loss to Mount Union on Thursday night, 87-78.

  • Senior Devon Peart led the Muskies in scoring with 18 points and hauled in five rebounds.
  • Freshman Trey Singleton cashed in 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds.
  • Junior Cameron Miller tallied 14 points and five rebounds.
  • Freshman Carson Carter added 11 points.
  • As a team, the Muskies went 24-for-62 (38.7%) from the field and 8-for-25 from the arc (32.0%).
  • Andrew Francesconi guided the Purple Raiders in scoring with 15 points, while Nathan Bower-Malone put up 12 points.
  • Mount Union made 48.5% of their shots (32-for-66), went 11-for-28 from the arc (39.3%), and ended the contest shooting 12-for-18 from the free-throw line (66.7%).

  • The teams were neck-and-neck through the opening minutes of play, with neither squad leading by more than four points. Then, at the 6:59 mark, Tommy Stenger hit a three-pointer for Mount Union to put them up by six points (29-23). The Purple Raiders used this surge to increase their advantage to 11 points (41-30) at the 1:14 juncture. Peart answered for the Muskies with a bucket and a foul shot, cutting the deficit to eight points (41-33) at the break.

  • Mount Union came out firing in the second half, increasing their lead to 12 points (52-40) thanks to a triple from Francesconi with 14:24 on the clock. The Muskies came back after Peart drained a bucket from downtown to ignite a huge 17-4 run, giving Muskingum a one-point edge over the Purple Raiders (57-56) with 10:47 to go. Mount Union retaliated with an 11-5 span, regaining the lead (67-62) at the 7:18 mark. Over the next six minutes, the Purple Raiders outscored the Muskies (16-12) to make it a nine-point game (83-74). Mount Union used this momentum to secure the road win.

  • Muskingum next travels to Heidelberg on Saturday, February 2. Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m.
