#23 Capital cruises past Muskies
The 23rd-ranked Capital Crusaders cruised past the Muskingum men's basketball team on Wednesday night, 89-69.

  • Sophomore Mitch Clark led the Muskies' offense with 17 points and pulled down six rebounds.
  • Freshman Trey Singleton cashed in 16 points, shooting 7-for-11 (63.6%) from the field.
  • Sophomore Tyler Bardall tallied 11 points and hauled in three rebounds.
  • Senior Jalen Paige added eight points and dished out five assists.
  • As a team, the Muskies went 27-for-61 (44.3%) from the field and 10-for-25 from the arc (40.0%).
  • Joey Weingartner guided the Crusaders in scoring with 19 points, while Caleb Cox put up 18 points and Will Hannah scored 17 points.
  • Capital made 50.8% of their shots (33-for-65), went 7-for-17 from the arc (41.2%), and ended the contest shooting 16-for-18 from the free-throw line (88.9%).

  • In the opening minutes of the game, the teams went back-and-forth with neither squad leading by more than five points. Then, at the 7:29 mark, Weingartner connected on a three-pointer to put Capital up 28-21. Over the following four minutes, both teams scored eight points, making it 36-29. The Crusaders managed to outscored Muskingum (8-4) in the final minutes of the half, entering the break with an 11-point advantage (44-33)

  • In the second half, the Muskies scored first thanks to a bucket from senior Devon Peart, cutting Capital's lead to nine points (44-35). The Crusaders responded with six unasnwered points, making it 50-35 with 17:18 remaining. Bardall hit a jumper to halt Capital's span and ignite a 6-0 burst, bringing the Muskies back within nine points (50-41) with 15:33 on the clock. During the next nine minutes, Muskingum was able to narrowly outscore the Crusaders (23-22) after Singleton knocked down a basket at the 6:34 juncture. With an eight-point lead (72-64), Capital honed a 13-2 run at the 2:39 mark and rode the momentum to a 20-point victory over the Muskies (89-69).

  • Muskingum next travels to Baldwin Wallace on Saturday, January 26. Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m.
