The Muskingum men's basketball team dropped an overtime thriller at Guilford on Sunday afternoon, 82-78.

  • Senior Jalen Paige was named to the Guilford Classic All-Tournament Team for his outstanding performances against Lynchburg and Guilford, scoring a total of 24 points, dishing out eight assists, and collecting seven rebounds.

Inside the Numbers 

  • Seniors Devon Peart and Jalen Paige led the Muskies with 16 points each. 
  • Sophomore Mitch Clark tallied 13 points and four rebounds.
  • Junior Cameron Miller notched 10 points and pulled down three rebounds.
  • Freshman Trey Singleton secured a career-high of nine points and hauled in four rebounds.
  • As a team, the Muskies went 27-for-71 (38.0%) from the field and 12-for-42 from the arc (28.6%).
  • Marcus Curry guided Guilford's offense with 23 points while Jaylen Gore put up 17 points.  
  • Guilford made 47.5% of their shots (28-for-59), went 9-for-26 from the arc (34.6%), and ended the contest shooting 17-for-26 from the free-throw line (65.4%).
Game Highlights 
  • Guilford came out firing in the first half, scoring 17 unanswered points. With 12:25 on the clock, Miller made a layup to end the Quakers' streak. Over the next eight minutes, Muskingum narrowly outscored Guilford (11-9) to make it 26-13. The Quakers managed to stay in front during the final minutes of the half and went into the break with a 12-point lead (33-21).
  • In the second half, Peart made two free-throws to spark a 7-0 burst, cutting Guilford's lead to five points (33-28) with 18:44 remaining. Then, Muskingum outscored the Quakers (21-17) after Paige knocked down a triple, making it 50-49 at the 10:09 juncture. Guilford answered with a 7-0 spurt to gain an eight-point edge (57-49) with 8:53 on the clock. Clark sank a basket, concluding a (14-4) run to give the Muskies the lead (63-61) at the 4:31 mark. In the final minutes of play, the Quakers outscored Muskingum (7-5), tying the game at 68 at the end of regulation.

  • In overtime, the teams traded baskets with neither squad leading by more than three points. With 51 seconds left, Curry made a free-throw to put Guilford in front (76-75). The Quakers went on to outscore the Muskies (6-3), securing an 82-78 victory.
