Men's Basketball falls to Baldwin Wallace

The Muskingum men's basketball team fell to Baldwin Wallace on Saturday afternoon, 74-67. The contest marked the home and Ohio Athletic Conference opener for the Muskies.

The Basics

Inside the Numbers
• Junior Marcus Dempsey led the team with 23 points, eight rebounds, and three assists.
• Sophomore Mitch Clark tallied 15 points, shooting five-for-six from the field (83.3%), and grabbed eight rebounds.
• Senior Devon Peart notched 13 points and came down with five rebounds.
• Senior Jayson Peoples added eight points.
• As a team, the Muskies went 22-for-55 (40.0%) from the field and 8-for-24 from the arc (33.3%).
• Jack Lostoski led the Yellow Jackets offense with 20 points, Jay Battle recorded 19 points, and Michael Quiring added 14 points.
• Baldwin Wallace made 37.3% of their shots (25-for-67), went 12-for-32 from the arc (37.5%), and ended the contest going 12-for-19 from the free-throw line (63.2%).

Game Highlights
In the first minute of the game, Clark drained a three-pointer which sparked a 7-0 run for Muskingum. With 18:05 remaining, Baldwin Wallace made a layup to end the Muskie's offensive spurt. The Yellow Jackets retaliated with a 13-5 run to grab a 13-12 lead at the 14:14 mark. Muskingum came back and tied the game at 19-19 after a layup from Peart with 11:02 left to play. Baldwin Wallace regained the lead after a 10-0 run which gave them a 35-24 advantage with 6:42 on the clock. The Muskies responded with a 10-0 run, ignited by a layup from senior Brandon Keyes, to make it 35-34 with 1:21 left in the half. The Yellow Jackets knocked down a three-pointer in the final minute to establish a 38-34 lead going into the break. 

In the second half, Muskingum and Baldwin Wallace traded baskets, with neither team leading by more than four points up to the 11:12 mark. At that time, the Yellow Jackets honed a 7-0 run to notch a 55-44 lead. Muskingum used the momentum from Clark's two successful free throws to go on a 9-2 run, making it 57-53 with 5:37 left in the half. The Muskies cut Baldwin Wallace's lead down to two points, 63-61, with 2:32 on the clock after Dempsey hit a three-pointer. However, Baldwin Wallace utilized a late 9-2 run to halt the Muskie comeback en route to the road victory.
