Men's Basketball aims to challenge for a top tier spot in the OAC

After making it to the Ohio Athletic Conference Final Four two years ago, the Muskingum men's basketball team, under the guidance of Head Coach Travis Schwab, will look to return to championship form during the 2018-19 season.

Coach Schwab's team will feature the return of First Team All-OAC junior Marcus Dempsey, along with three leading returners. Those returners include sophomore forward Tyler Bardall, senior guard Devon Peart, and senior Guard Jalen Paige.

Dempsey was named OAC Men's Basketball Player of the week, U.S. National Men's Basketball Player of the Week, D3hoops.com Second Team All-Region, and Third Team Academic All-American. He finished first in points per game in the OAC and third in NCAA Division lll. Dempsey led the Muskies with a career-best 758 points, averaging 30.3 points per game. He tallied 113 rebounds, 62 assists, and 20 steals. Dempsey broke numerous school records last season including points scored in a season, most points in a game, and most field goals attempted. Dempsey also became the 32nd Muskingum men's basketball player to reach 1,000 career points.

Bardall ended the season shooting .403 from the field with 90 points and 63 rebounds.

Peart recorded a career-best 309 points with an average of 12.4 points per game. In his career, he's logged 125 rebounds, 37 assists, and 62 steals.

Paige compiled 59 rebounds, 57 assists, and 144 points. Paige went 42 for 45 on free throws, securing a free throw percentage of .933.

Coach Schwab has a plethora of returning players who are knowledgeable, experienced, and devoted: senior guard Micah Keith, senior forward Brandon Keyes, and senior guard Jayson Peoples. Coach Schwab will also have the luxury of a first-rate recruiting class to add talent and depth to the squad.

Muskingum opens the regular season at Wooster on Wednesday, November 14, at 7:00 p.m. The Muskies' conference opener is Saturday, December 1, vs. Baldwin Wallace. Game time is slated for 2:00 p.m.
