Marcus Dempsey pours out 40 points as Men’s Basketball Falls at Ohio Northern

Marcus Dempsey erupted with 40 points for the Muskingum University men's basketball team, but Ohio Northern's .609 shooting from the floor gave the hosts the 108-87 win.

  • Marcus Dempsey continues to have the hot hands for the Muskies as he exploded for 40 points on 13-of-26 shooting, which included 4-of-8 from the arc, and grabbed five rebounds. This is his third time in six games where he has registered 40 plus points.
  • Devon Peart notched eight points and three assists.
  • Jalen Paige dished out a game-best five assists and added four rebounds.
  • Muskingum shot .446 (33-of-74) from the field, made 10 three-pointers, and went 11-for-13 at the free throw line (.846).

Game Highlights

Ohio Northern's led, 30-13, with 11:10 on the clock, which was the largest advantage in the first half. Muskingum battled and got within seven points, 40-33, after going on a 12-5 run from the 8:17 marker until 4:10 to go. Dempsey drained a three-pointer with 1:02 left, but ONU gathered a layup with 37 seconds and held the 52-40 lead at intermission. The Polar Bears offense was outstanding in the first half as they shot .636 (21-of-33) from the field.

The Muskies started the second half on a positive note as they made their first four shots to get within eight, 56-48, with 18:26 left. From that point on, the Polar Bears took command of the game as they held a double-digit lead en route to the win.
