Sophomore Marcus Dempsey 57 points versus Oberlin broke the 104-year-old school record for points scored in a game on Saturday evening. Muskingum men's basketball team fought its way back in the second half, but fell, 111-104, in the Oberlin College Tournament championship game.

Notables

• Sophomore Marcus Dempsey broke the school single game scoring record after exploding a 57-point effort against Oberlin. The previous record was 54 points set in 1912-13 by Babe Arnold. Dempsey also tied the school record in field goals attempted in a game with 30. Jim Vejsicky set the record for that category against Ohio Northern during the 1970-1971 season.  
• Dempsey was named the Holiday Classic All-Tournament Most Valuable Player after an outstanding two-day performance where he registered 105 total points on 68% shooting from the field (34-of-50) and went 14-of-20 from the arc (70%), while adding six rebounds and six assists.

Inside the Numbers  

• Three Muskie players notched double-digit scoring.
• Dempsey poured in 57 points, hitting 19-of-30 from the field, 7-of-12 from the arc, and 12-of-16 from the free throw line. He also produced four assists, three rebounds, one steal and one block.
• Devon Peart finished with a career-high 21 points, six rebounds, and three steals.
• Rashay Douglas came off the bench to toss in 14 points.
• Muskingum ended the contest shooting 50% (34-of-68) from the field, which is the second highest percentage of the season. The team also made 37.5% (12-of-32) from the arc and shot 80% (24-of-30) from the free throw line.
• Muskingum's 104 points was the most tallied this season.
• Oberlin was led by Eli Silverman-Lloyd who tallied 31 points.
• Joshua Friedkin posted 24 points, six rebounds, and six assists.
• Andre Campbell collected 20 points, while Christian Fioretti added 14 points, a team-high 10 rebounds, and six assists.
• The Yeomen made 60.7% of their shots (34-for-56), went 10-for-18 from the arc (55.6%), and went 33-of-43 from the free throw line (76.7%).

Game Highlights

Muskingum was down by 20 points, 67-47, at the 12:34 marker in the second half and rallied its way back to get within three points, 97-94, when Douglas knocked down a three-pointer with 1:05 on the clock. The final minute consisted of 20 total attempts from the charity stripe between both squads as Oberlin went a perfect 14-of-14, while Muskingum went 6-of-6. Dempsey set the school record for points in a game with 1:51 on the clock off a made layup.  

At the end of the first half, Muskingum trailed, 44-34, at intermission. Oberlin finished the first frame by shooting 56.7% from the field.
