The Muskingum men's basketball team dropped an epic triple overtime thriller in Ohio Athletic Conference action against Mount Union Wednesday evening, 117-111.
The Basics
- Location: New Concord, Ohio - Anne C. Steele Center
- Records: Muskingum (12-10 overall, 6-9 OAC), Mount Union (13-9 overall, 8-7 OAC)
Game Notes
- Muskingum's 111-point outburst were the most points scored by a Muskie team since the Muskies beat Heidelberg 113-73 during the 2005-06 season.
First Half
- Mount Union connected from behind the arc in the final seconds to claim the 41-39 halftime lead.
- Freshman Marcus Dempsey led all scorers with 17 points, shooting 6-for-8 (.750) from the field.
- As a team, Muskingum shot 16-for-28 (.571) from the floor.
- The Purple Raiders led by as much as eight in the first-half.
Second Half
- With 13:25 remaining in the second-half, Muskingum captured its largest lead of the contest following a pair of free throws by senior Joshua Glass, 50-45.
- Mount Union used an 8-0 run with 7:51 to play to regain the 57-54 advantage.
- The Muskies continued to battle as senior Joshua Keyes sank an improbable three-pointer from the top of the key with 10 seconds remaining to force overtime.
First Overtime
- Muskingum jumped out to the quick 78-73 lead as sophomore Jalen Paige connected from behind the arc with 4:45 to play.
- With 12 seconds remaining, Mount Union's DeAllen Jackson connected for a game-tying three-pointer forcing the second overtime.
Second Overtime
- The Purple Raiders charged ahead 99-96 with 12 seconds to play following a layup and free throw by Jackson.
- Mount Union then committed an open court foul sending Dempsey to the line with 3 seconds remaining.
- After sinking the first free throw, Dempsey rimmed the second free throw landing the ball in the hands of Glass who laid in the ridiculous game-tying basket forcing the third overtime.
Third Overtime
- Mount Union used a 7-0 run with 1:09 remaining to seal the win.
- Sophomore Jarrell Marsh led Muskingum in the overtime period netting eight points.
Post Game
- Dempsey led the way for Muskingum netting a career-high 38 points on 12-of-22 (.545) shooting from the field.
- Keyes finished with a double-double for the Muskies netting 17 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.
- Marsh chipped in 18 points, while Paige added 12 points, including three three-pointers.
- Muskingum edged Mount Union in rebounds by a 49-42 margin.
- The Purple Raiders were led by Jackson who recorded his 1,000th career point in the contest.
