Erik Ieuter, an effective, championship-winning coach with a record of success and student achievement at every level, took over as head coach of the Muskingum Football program in the spring of 2018.

During his first year, Ieuter and his coaching staff injected new energy and commitment into the Muskingum program that propelled the Muskies to a four-win campaign for just the third time since 2003. The season was highlighted with wins against Waynesburg, Wilmington, Otterbein, and Heidelberg. The victory against Otterbein on Homecoming was the first against the Cardinals in 14 years, while the triumph against Heidelberg was the first against the Student Princes in eight years. Last season, the Muskies continued to make waves and ended the campaign with a number of record-setting performances on the offensive and defensive side of the ball, and on special teams.

2021 saw Ieuter lead the Muskies to a five-win season, the most wins in a season since the 2003 campaign, and the first top half finish in the OAC standings since 2009. Muskingum earned victories over Waynesburg, Ohio Northern, Wilmington, Otterbein, and Capital en route to their outstanding year. Muskingum's 62-14 win over Wilmington marked the most points the program had scored in a single game since 1960. With the win, the Muskies also extended their winning streak against the Quakers to 12 games. Muskingum's win over Ohio Northern also marked the program's first victory over the Polar Bears since the 2011 season.

In 2022, Muskingum replicated their success, earning five wins for the second consecutive season. This marked the first time the program achieved back-to-back five-win years since 1995 and 1996. During 2022, Muskingum defeated Ferrum, Capital, Otterbein, Ohio Northern, and Wilmington.

Ieuter spent the 2017 season in the Southeastern Conference at the University of Florida, working with the team’s quarterbacks and making strategic offensive game-day preparations. Prior to the 2017 season, Ieuter served 11 years at Division II Michigan Technological University, in Houghton, Michigan, first as wide receivers/special teams coordinator and most recently as offensive coordinator.

During his tenure there, Michigan Tech’s offense finished among the top five in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) in both total offense and rushing offense three times. Working closely with the team’s quarterbacks and wide receivers, several of Ieuter’s players reset several school records and received All-GLIAC honors. In 2012, the team won the GLIAC North Championship and in 2014 made the NCAA Playoffs.

A native of Midland, Michigan, Ieuter attended Division III Albion College in Albion, Michigan, where he was a wide receiver and punt returner, helping to lead the Britons to two Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Conference Championships.

Ieuter’s collegiate coaching experience also includes a stint as a graduate assistant at Division II Grand Valley State University, in Allendale, Michigan from 2004 to 2006, working with the team’s wide receivers and offensive line. During his time there, Grand Valley State went undefeated in 2005 (13-0), winning the 2005 GLIAC Championship and NCAA Division II National Championship. He also served as a graduate assistant, working with the team’s wide receivers, safeties, and kick returners at Adams State College, in Alamosa, Colorado, from 2003-2004.

Ieuter holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Management and English from Albion College and a Master of Arts in Health and Physical Education from Adams State College.
