Football announces postseason team awards

Muskingum Football Head Coach Erik Ieuter has announced the 13 postseason awards presented by the Muskingum football coaching staff to several Muskie football student-athletes.

Senior running back Bernard Johnson received three awards including the Offensive Back of the Year, Outstanding Offensive Player of the Year, and Iron Man Award. Johnson finished the year with 424 rushing yards on 80 carries and had three touchdowns, and added 11 receptions for 107 yards. Johnson also earned OAC Offensive Player of the Week honors and was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week after rushing for a career-high 172 yards and two touchdowns to help lead the Muskies to a 38-21 victory over Wilmington.

Senior defensive end Tim Ousley received three awards including the Defensive Lineman of the Year, Outstanding Defensive Player of the Year, and Team MVP. Ousley led the Muskies in tackles with 80, sacks with 10, and tackles-for-loss with 14.5. Ousley finished his Muskie tenure ranked first all-time in sacks with 28 and ranked eighth all-time in career tackles with 263.

The Muskie Award was given to junior linebacker Nehemiah Bowie. Bowie finished the season with 63 total tackles, 2.5 tackles-for-loss, and three pass break-ups.

Junior offensive lineman TJ Boyd was honored with Offensive Lineman of the Year. Boyd helped the Muskies offense average 361.5 yards per game and 22.7 points per game.

The Defensive Back of the Year was given to junior defensive back Brian Brown. Brown was second on the team in tackles with 64, had two interceptions, and led the team in pass breakups with eight.

Sophomore kicker Gavin Costello was given the Special Teams Player of the Year. Costello went 11-for-13 on field goals and was nearly perfect from extra-points going 25-for-26 on the year. Costello tied Vern Albery (1966) for first all-time in field goals made in a season with 11.

The Freshman of the Year was anointed to freshman running back Jeffrey Curtis. He ran for 380 yards and had three rushing touchdowns while adding nine receptions and 102 yards in his first year.

Scout Offensive Player of the Year went to freshman wide receiver Zuri Edmondson.

Freshman defensive lineman Owen Hartshorn earned Scout Defensive Player of the Year.
