Football celebrates Senior Day vs. Heidelberg

The Muskingum football team fell on Senior Day against Heidelberg on a crisp afternoon in McConagha Stadium, 59-21. Fairfield Inn & Suites in Cambridge served as the official GAMEDAY sponsor.

Before the start of the game, Muskingum recognized seniors Yannis Dailey, Tim Ousley, Trocon Keneah, Bernard Johnson, Darius Hayes-Carruth, Caleb Gaiters, and Quinton Gabbard.

With the loss, Muskingum slips to 2-6 overall and 1-6 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Heidelberg moves to 6-2 overall and 5-2 in league play.

Heidelberg led 14-0 at the end of the first quarter and took a 35-7 lead into the break en route to the road win.

Muskingum junior quarterback Brody Hahn guided the Muskie offense going 12-of-18 for 192 yards with three touchdowns. Hahn hit sophomore tight end Jacob Quinn for an eight-yard score in the second quarter and found Quinn again in the third quarter for a 17-yard touchdown pass. Hahn rounded out the Muskie scoring in the fourth quarter with a 20-yard touchdown pass to Hayes-Carruth.

Hayes-Carruth ended the outing with five receptions for a season-best 98 yards and one score. He now ranks fifth all-time at Muskingum with 1,384 yards. Quinn logged a career-best four grabs for a career-high 77 yards with two scores.

Junior running back Cameron Near led the Muskie ground game with eight rushes for 64 yards, while sophomore running back Justin Bell had 12 totes for 51 yards.

Ousley led the defensive effort with a season-high 16 tackles with one sack for five yards. Ousley now has 25 career sacks, which rank first all-time at Muskingum, and his 252 career stops rank 11th all-time. Keneah and Gaiters each registered nine stops.

Jimmy Gephart led Heidelberg going 27-of-33 for 345 yards with four touchdowns. Dimitri Patrick had 11 receptions for 96 yards and one score, while Maceo Matthews had eight grabs for 128 yards and one touchdown. Tayy Yearby rushed for a game-high 93 yards on 17 carries and added five receptions for 101 yards with one touchdown.

Jacob Rings paced the Heidelberg defense with five stops, while Jayden Stanton had four hits.

Following the game, Ousley and Gephart were named the Fairfield Inn & Suites Players of the Game.

Muskingum next travels to second-ranked Mount Union on Saturday, November 9. The game time is slated for 1:30 p.m.
