The Muskingum University football coaching staff has announced that senior wide receiver Damon Jones and freshman quarterback Brody Hahn have been named the Co-Offensive Most Valuable Players, while senior's Mick Fishel and Staci Wilson have been named the Co-Defensive Most Valuable Player honorees for the 2017 season.
Jones set the school record for receiving yards in a season with 875 yards on 49 receptions. The old mark was 805 yards set by current Minnesota Vikings wide receivers coach Darrell Hazell in 1983. Jones gathered 974 all-purpose yards (35 rushing, 875 receiving, and 64 punt return yards) and logged in seven receiving touchdowns, all of which ranked him first on the team. Throughout his career, he saw action in 39 games, registered 14 receiving touchdowns and 1,990 all-purpose yards (108 rushing, 1,818 receiving, 64 punt return yards).
Hahn had quite the freshman outing as he set several school marks this season. He set school records for passing yards in a season (2,026), pass completions in a season (177), pass attempts in a season (326), total offense for a season (2,396- 2,026 pass/370 rush) and tied the record for touchdown passes in a season (14). Hahn set the single-game record for total offense in a season with his 427-yard (364 passing/63 rushing) outburst at Otterbein.
Fishel tallied 65 total tackles and averaged 6.6 tackles-per-game for the Muskies defense this season, which was second best on the team. Furthermore, Fishel notched 1.5 sacks, three tackles for a loss for 14 yards, forced two fumbles, and added one interception. He ended his tenure ranked 12th all-time at Muskingum in total tackles with 248.
Wilson finished the season with 39 tackles, 4.5 tackles for a loss, one sack, and one fumble recovery. He recorded a season-high nine total tackles against Baldwin Wallace, while adding one sack, and three tackles for loss. In his four years at Muskingum, he appeared in 30 games and collected 103 tackles.
