Football suffers setback against Heidelberg

The Muskingum football team suffered a 52-7 setback against Heidelberg in McConagha Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Basics

How It Happened

  • Muskingum junior running back Melvin Smith scored on a two-yard touchdown in the opening minutes of the first quarter to give the Muskies a 7-0 lead following junior kicker Cody Dent's extra point. Smith's touchdown capped off a two-play drive that saw Smith open the drive with a 56-yard run. Smith ended the game with 109 yards on 11 carries with one touchdown.
  • Heidelberg answered the Muskingum early charge by scoring the next 42 points of the half and the final 52 points of the game.
  • The Student Princes racked up 422 yards of offense. The attack was balanced with 233 yards passing and 189 yards rushing.
  • Muskingum mustered 133 yards of offense.
  • Tyler Stoyle led the Berg throwing for 233 yards and four scores on 21-of-36 passing with one interception. He also added 43 yards on the ground with one touchdown.
  • Nick Delisa caught seven balls for 62 yards and three scores.
  • Muskingum junior linebacker Chaney Fulton led the defense with a game-high 13 tackles and two sacks for 10 yards.
  • Sophomore linebacker Mick Fishel and senior defensive lineman Barry Parks each added nine stops to help pace the Muskie defense.
