Waynesburg used a second-half surge to break open a close game en route to handing Muskingum a 35-10 setback in its season opener on a hot Saturday afternoon in McConagha Stadium.
The Basics

The Boxscore
- After following behind 14-0 in the first half, Muskingum scored the final 10 points of the frame.
- Senior quarterback Cody Willams scampered in from eight-yards out to cap off a 15-play, 84-yard drive at the 6:27 mark of the second quarter.
- Junor kicker Dent connected on a 28-yard field goal with 1:16 on the clock to end a 10-play, 68-yard drive.
- Waynesburg scored 21 unanswered points in the second half to break open the close 14-10 game at the half.
Inside the Muskie Numbers
- Muskingum churned out 323 yards of offense and mustered 18 first downs.
- Williams led the offense with 184 total yards. He went 10-of-21 passing for 127 yards and two interceptions and added 57 yards on the ground on 10 carries with one touchdown.
- Freshman running back Nick Asturi rumbled for 45 yards on 10 carries and averaged 4.5 yards per tote.
- Junior running back Melvin Smith rushed for 38 yards on nine carries.
- Sophomore receiver Damon Jones caught four passes for a career-best 86 yards.
- Sophomore Aron Sutton hauled in three receptions for 27 yards. He also added 57 yards in kick returns and 15 yards in punt returns.
The Waynesburg Sting
- Waynesburg forced the Muskies into five turnovers (three fumbles and two interceptions) and scored 28 points on four of the ensuing possessions.
- Waynesburg ended the outing with 345 yards and 18 first downs. The Yellow Jackets passed for 182 and rushed for 163.
- Jerry Lawman led the ground game with 113 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries.
- Jake Dougherty led the air attack going 16-of-26 for 182 yards and two touchdowns. He also threw one interception.
- Tim Cooper hauled in six receptions for 72 yards and one score.
- Kevin Barnes caught four balls for 76 yards and one touchdown.
The Muskie D
- Senior linebacker Zach Barry led the unit with 10 tackles and one sack for eight yards.
- Junior All-American linebacker Chaney Fulton added seven stops.
- Freshman defensive back Rodney Barnes II logged six stops.
- Senior All-OAC honoree Dorian Maynard had five stops and one interception.
- Senior defensive lineman Barry Parks made four tackles and had one sack.
The Waynesburg D
- Jonathan Carlier made nine tackles.
- Roomel Reese had eight stops and forced one fumble.
- Christian Bresisinger made five stops and had one interception.
- Josh Mundel had five tackles and made one interception.
