Muskies fall to 7th-ranked John Carroll

The Muskingum football team lost against 7th-ranked John Carroll on a cold Saturday afternoon in McConagha Stadium, 62-14.

The Muskies rallied after a large halftime deficit to outscore the Blue Streaks 14-7 in the second half. Junior Desmond Waden spearheaded the Muskingum offense with a 75-yd run for the first touchdown less than a minute into the second half of game. Then, with 4:49 left in the quarter, Waden carried the ball 5 yards for another Muskingum touchdown after the offense pushed 40 yards downfield in five plays led by Junior quarterback Cody Williams.

John Carroll (8-0, 7-0) powered to a 55-0 lead in the first half to take control of the contest. The Blue Streak offense capitalized on multiple recovered Muskingum fumbles and relied heavily on senior quarterback Mark Myers and senior running back Tommy Michals.

The Muskingum offense put up 274 total yards. Williams went 11-of-26 for 147 yards with one interception and added 6 yards of rushing production.

Waden paced the ground game with 12 carries for 121 yards. Freshman Aron Sutton had 19 yards rushing on two carries.

Sutton led the Muskie receivers with four receptions for 45 yards. Freshman Damon Jones had two grabs for 41 yards.

Senior Damond Goggins paced the defensive effort with eleven tackles. Junior Chaney Fulton had ten tackles and freshman Mick Fishel was close behind with nine.

Myers directed the John Carroll offense, which churned out 544 yards, going 16-of-26 for 275 yards and five touchdowns.

Michals rushed for 96 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries. Marshall Howell led the receivers with four receptions for 106 yards and one touchdown.

Scott Eilerman logged seven stops to pace the Blue Streak defense.

The Muskies next host Marietta for Senior Day on Saturday, November 8. Game time is set for 1:30 p.m. in McConagha Stadium and will showcase the Fighting Muskie seniors prior to game time.
