Washington sets school receiving yards record

Muskingum senior receiver James Washington set the school record for career receiving yards against Ohio Northern on Saturday. Washington ended the game with nine receptions for 105 yards to propel his career total to 2,049. Washington surpassed former Muskie standout and current Purdue Head Coach Darrell Hazell who held the record (1,966 receiving yards) since 1985.

Ohio Northern scored 49 unaswered points, including leading 21-0 at the break, to silence the crowd in McConagha Stadium en route to posting a 49-7 win against Muskingum.

Muskingum now stands at 1-7 overall and 1-6 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Muskies next travel to Capital on Saturday, November 9. Game time is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

Ohio Northern (4-4, 3-4) grabbed the momentum early in the contest on a 37-yard touchdown pass from Patrick Angle to Justin Buenger. The scoring strike was the first offensive play for the Polar Bears.

The Polar Bears continued with big plays throughout the game and took advantage of five Muskingum turnovers. Devon Price returned the opening kickoff of the second half 84 yards for a touchdown to put the Polar Bears up 28-0. Minutes later, Angle hit Buenger for an 82-yard touchdown to increase the margin to 42-0.

Muskingum's score came midway through the fourth on a 30-yard run by senior tight end Wes Rataiczak. The rushing score was the first of Rataiczak's career.

Sophomore quarterback Cody Williams ended the game going 15-of-24 for 142 yards with one interception.

Rataiczak paced the rushing attack with 53 yards one score. Williams added 43 yards on 11 totes and sophomore Melvin Smith had 42 yards on eight carries. Muskingum ended the game with 246 yards rushing.

Senior defensive back Darrell Jones and junior linebacker Zach Berry led the Muskie defense with eight stops each. Freshman Tyler Lancaster also added an interception and junior linebacker Jordan Smith registered four stops with a sack.

Angle went 13-of-17 for 198 yards and three scores with one interception to guide the Polar Bear offense.

Justin Magazine rushed for 57 yards and two touchdowns and Buenger ended the game with 138 yards receiving and two scores.

Dillion Kwiat led the ONU defense with a game-best 12 tackles.
