The Muskingum baseball team dropped their season-opener on the road to #22 Washington & Jefferson, 9-3.
The Basics
- Records: Muskingum (0-1 Overall), Washington & Jefferson (2-3 Overall)

The Difference
- After both teams tallied a run in the first inning, the Presidents took a 2-1 lead in the second off a sacrifice fly.
- Washington & Jefferson scored six runs in the third to open up an 8-1 lead.
- Muskingum was able to trim the Presidents' lead down to 8-2 in the fourth, but Washington & Jefferson answered back in the fifth, extending their lead back up to seven runs.
- The Muskies tallied another run in the eighth but couldn't spark a comeback as the Presidents claimed a 9-3 victory.
Inside the Numbers
- Muskingum ended the game with three runs on six hits with six errors.
- The Muskies were led by junior Devin Ryan, who went 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Both of Ryan's hits were doubles.
- Senior Chayce Lundell finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs on the afternoon.
- Sophomore Jaxon Rinkes started the game, went 2.1 innings, and allowed five runs (four earned) on four hits. He also notched three strikeouts.
- Sophomore Quinten Collins also went 1-for-3 with an RBI for Muskingum.
- Washington & Jefferson logged nine runs on 11 hits and committed one error.
- Scout Zaas went 1-for-3 with two RBIs to lead the Presidents.
- Jackson Denney earned the win for W&J after tossing five innings and allowing two runs on four hits. He ended the outing with a pair of strikeouts.
