John Carroll sweeps Muskingum

John Carroll swept the Muskingum baseball team on a chilly day at Mose Morehead Field on Sunday. The Blue Streaks won the opener 10-1 and took the nightcap, 7-3.

Inside the Numbers - Game One

  • Muskingum scored one run on four hits and committed one error.
  • Seniors Eddie Harper and Brad Donathan and freshmen Caden Mumaw and Matt Stewart each had one hit, with Donathan's being a double.
  • Harper scored the Muskie lone run in the eighth inning on a wild pitch. He opened the inning with a walk.
  • Sophomore Josh Bigrigg started the game and went 6.1 innings and allowed seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits with five strikeouts. The loss dropped Bigrigg's record to 2-3.
  • John Carroll scored 10 runs on 13 hits and committed one error.
  • Monroe Donnelly and David Ferguson led the Blue Streaks with three RBIs each. Donnelly also hit a solo home run in the third inning.
  • Fred Moore garnered the win after going 7.2 innings and allowing one run on four hits. The win moved Moore to 3-1 on the season.

Inside the Numbers - Game Two

  • Muskingum scored three runs on nine hits and had two errors
  • Harper and junior Michael Pagano each went 2-for-4, with Pagano having an RBI single.
  • Donathan and junior Ben Van Wey each belted a double.
  • Freshman Ryan Hernandez started the game and lasted just one inning after allowing four runs on three hits. The loss slips Hernandez's record to 1-2.
  • John Carroll scored seven runs on nine hits.
  • Donnelly went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and one run scored.
  • Dominic Mittiga went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a solo home run.
  • Duncan Capper grabbed the win after going six innings and allowing three runs on six hits. The win moved Capper to 1-0.
  • Cameron Mayle earned the save after tossing the final 1.2 innings and allowing just one hit.

Game Highlights

In the opener, John Carroll scored two runs in the first and added one in the third inning and fifth inning to take a 4-0 lead. The Blue Streaks tacked on four more runs in the seventh to take control of the game.

In game two, John Carroll erupted for four runs in the first inning on three hits. The Muskies trimmed their gap in the fourth inning by scoring two runs. Junior Marc Ibarra and Pagano each had RBI singles. The Blue Streaks answered the Muskie spurt by scoring two runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 6-2 lead. Van Wey completed the Muskie scoring in the fifth inning with an RBI groundout that scored Stewart.
