Baseball wins home opener against Hiram

The Muskingum baseball team won its home opener against non-conference opponent Hiram on Friday afternoon by the final score of 3-1.

The Basics 

  • Records: Muskingum (5-5 overall), Hiram (2-9 overall)

Inside the Numbers

  • Muskingum scored three runs on six hits.
  • Senior Eddie Harper led the Muskies by going 2-for-3 at the plate and added a run scored.
  • Freshman Matt Stewart went 2-for-4 at the dish with a run scored and one RBI.
  • Junior Marc Ibarra notched one RBI.
  • Junior Evan Hinds registered his third win from the mound in 8.1 innings of work, collected five strikeouts, and allowed just one run.

Game Highlights

  • Heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, Muskingum and Hiram were at a 0-0 deadlock.
  • In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Muskies fired it up as Stewart singled up the middle to drive home Holden Martin across the plate for the first run of the game.
  • The second run of the game also took place in the bottom of the seventh as Stewart scored on a throwing error by Hiram's first baseman.
  • An RBI single from Ibarra in the bottom of the seventh tallied the final run for the Muskies.
  • PJ Suso homered to left field to score the lone run for Hiram in the top of the ninth.
