Muskies run past Wittenberg in record breaking performance

The Muskingum baseball team scored a season-best 23 runs as the Muskies ran past Wittenberg on Tuesday evening, 23-11.

  • Records: Muskingum (15-19 overall), Wittenberg (10-22 overall)

Game Notes

  • The 23-run outburst is the most by any team since the 2013 season when the Muskies defeated Ohio Wesleyan, 22-10.
  • Senior Joe Shumar's five RBI's is the most by any player dating back to the 2012 season. 

Inside the Numbers

  • Shumar led the Muskies at the plate going 3-for-5 with a career-best five RBI's, three runs scored and a home run.
  • Sophomore Patrick McGinty finished the contest 4-for-6 with four RBI's and two runs scored.
  • Sophomore Marc Ibarra went 4-for-5 at the dish with three RBI's.
  • As a team, Muskingum plated 23 runs on a season-best 24 hits. 
  • On the mound, freshman Josh Bigrigg tallied his first career win pitching 5.1 innings surrendering five runs on nine hits. 
  • Wittenberg scored 11 runs on 14 hits.
  • The Tigers were led at the plate by Brad Malott going 4-for-4 with three RBI's.
  • Blake Eckert dealt the loss for Wittenberg allowing three runs on three hits.
  • The Muskingum offense exploded in the top of the third inning plating 10 runs on eight hits led by Shumar with a three-run homer, 13-6.
  • The Muskies added an insurance run in the fifth inning as Ibarra doubled scoring senior Austin DeVore, 14-8.
  • The Tigers responded plating three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut the deficit, 14-11.
  • Muskingum continued to find success at the plate scoring six runs on seven hits in the top of the seventh inning, 20-11.
  • McGinty scored the Muskies final run in the top of the eighth inning as he hit an RBI single, scoring junior Brad Donathan
