Baseball drops DH at 12th-ranked BW

The Muskingum baseball team lost a doubleheader at 12th-ranked Baldwin Wallace on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets won the opener 5-2 and the nightcap, 11-1.

In the opener, Mark Zimmerman started and fired seven innings with three strikeouts to improve to 4-2.

Zimmerman also led the Yellow Jackets at the plate hitting a home run and recording two RBIs. Cole Nieto went 2-for-4 with one RBI.

Sophomore Derrick Barker (1-3) started the game and went eight innings and allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits.

Sophomore A.J. Kazmierczak recorded two hits for the Muskies. Junior Brett Robberts and sophomore Joe Shumar each had an RBI.

In the nightcap, Baldwin Wallace (26-8, 10-6) was led by Hunter Handel as he went 4-for-5 with three RBIs. Kyle Chantos homered to right center in the bottom of the seventh and Eric Murphy had two doubles.

Evan Lovick (4-0) got the win for the Jackets as he pitched a strong eight innings with nine strikeouts.

Freshman Vayden Wood went 2-for-3 as he singled up the middle to score junior Christian Leitenberger for the Muskies' lone run. Wood also added a double down the left field line in the top of the fourth.

Sophomore Dallas Allen (2-4) started the game and went four innings and allowed six runs (three earned) on nine hits. Freshman Kyle Schmitgen finished the final four innings allowed five runs on six hits with one strikeout.

Muskingum (10-24, 4-12) next plays home against Washington & Jefferson on Wednesday, April 29. Game time is slated for 4:30 p.m.
