SAAC Muskies of the Month - January - 2018

The Muskingum Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has announced that men's basketball sophomore guard Marcus Dempsey and women's indoor track athlete Macy McAdams have been named the SAAC Muskies of the Month for January.

Demspey was twice named the USBWA National Men's Basketball Player of the Week and scored his 1,00th career point. He leads the Ohio Athletic Conference in scoring and ranks third in the nation.
 
McAdams set the school record in the indoor 5K and was a member of the Distance Medley Relay team that set the school record. She was an All-Ohio qualifier in the 3K, 5K and DMR and is the top ranked freshman in the region in the 5K.

USBWA National Men's Basketball Player of the Week - January 30, 2018

ST. LOUIS (USBWA) – Marcus Dempsey of Muskingum University was named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Division III National Men's Player of the Week for the week ending January 28.

Dempsey, a 6-1 sophomore guard from Zanesville, Ohio, earns the honor for the second time this season. He averaged 37.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.0 steal while playing every minute of the Fighting Muskies' (8-11, 6-6) two Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) games last week. On Wednesday, in an 86-78 loss to Capital, Dempsey scored 36 points (11-of-18 FG, 8-of-9 FT, 6-of-9 3FG) and added seven rebounds and an assist. Then in a 112-103 win vs. then-No. 23 (D3hoops.com) John Carroll on Saturday, he went over the 1,000-point career scoring mark with a 39-point (11-of-19 FG, 13-of-14 FT, 4-of-8 3FG), 12-rebound, four-assist, two-steal performance. The third-leading scorer in NCAA Division III this season (30.0 ppg), Dempsey shot 59.5 percent (22-of-38) from the field, 91.3 percent (21-of-23) from the foul line and 58.8 percent (10-of-17) from three-point range last week. He now has posted a one-season school record of 570 points and has accumulated 1,012 for his career in just 46 games. For his efforts, Dempsey was also named the OAC Player of the Week.

Each Tuesday, the USBWA is selecting men's and women's Division III National Players of the Week. This is the fourth season that the USBWA will recognize national players of the week from Division III.

The U.S. Basketball Writers Association was formed in 1956 at the urging of then-NCAA Executive Director Walter Byers. With some 900 members worldwide, it is one of the most influential organizations in college basketball. It has selected an All-America team since the 1956-57 season.

OAC - Men's Basketball Player of the Week - January 29, 2018

Muskingum sophomore Marcus Dempsey has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for his outstanding play during the week of January 22-28.

Dempsey became the 32nd Muskingum men's basketball player to reach 1,000 career points with a 39-point effort in the Muskies 112-103 victory against John Carroll on Saturday. He achieved this milestone in his 46th career game, while averaging 22.0 points per game. Marcus also broke the most points scored in a season record in the second half of the John Carroll game. The previous record was 559 points set in 1990-1991 by Andy Moore. After Saturday's performance, he has tallied 570 points this season.

Last Wednesday at Capital, Dempsey exploded with 36 points on 11-of-18 shooting, which included 6-of-9 from the arc. He also added a team-best seven rebounds.

Dempsey scored 75 total points on 59.5% shooting from the field (22-of-37), while adding 19 rebounds and five assists in two games last week.

SAAC Muskies of the Month - December - 2017

The Muskingum Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has announced that men's basketball sophomore guard Marcus Dempsey and women's basketball senior guard Olivia Besancon have been named the SAAC Muskies of the Month for December.

Demspey set the school record for points in a game with his 57-point outburst against Oberlin. He also added a 48-point performance the night before against Medialle and was named the MVP of the Oberlin Tournament. Dempsey leads the Ohio Athletic Conference and ranks third in the nation in scoring averaging 28.8 points per game. 
 
Besancon helped lead the Muskies to a 5-3 record in December. She leads the league in scoring averaing 21.3 points per game and is connecting on 90% of her free throw attempts. Her outstanding play was recognized at the Ohio Wesleyan Holiday Tournament by being named to the all-tournament squad.

USBWA National Men's Basketball Player of the Week - January 3, 2018

ST. LOUIS (USBWA) – Marcus Dempsey of Muskingum University was named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Division III National Men's Player of the Week for the week ending December 31.

Dempsey, a 6-1 sophomore guard from Zanesville, Ohio, averaged 52.5 points per game last week as the Fighting Muskies (5-6) went 1-1. In an 88-77 victory over Medaille on Friday, Dempsey scored 48 points (15-of-20 FG, 11-of-17 FT, 7-of-8 3FG) while adding three rebounds and two assists. Then, in a 111-104 loss to Oberlin on Saturday, Dempsey broke the Muskingum record and scored a NCAA Division III one-game season-high 57 points (19-of-30 FG, 12-of-16 FT, 7-of-12 3FG) while also totaling three rebounds, four assists, one steal, and one block. For the week, he shot 69 percent (34-of-50) from the field, 69.6 percent (23-of-33) from the foul line and 70 percent (14-of-20) from three-point range, while also averaging 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 0.5 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game. For his efforts, Dempsey was also named the Oberlin College Holiday Classic MVP and the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Player of the Week.

OAC - Men's Basketball Player of the Week - January 2, 2018

Muskingum sophomore Marcus Dempsey was honored for his outstanding play over the holiday break by being named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week.

Dempsey set the school record for points in a game with his 57-point performance against Oberlin in the Yeoman Tournament championship game. The previous record of 54 points was set during the 1912-13 season by Babe Arnold. Dempsey connected on 19-of-30 from the field, including 7-of-12 from behind the arc and 12-of-16 free throws. His 30 attempts also tied the school record for field goals attempted in a game which was set by Jim Vejsicky against Ohio Northern during the 1970-71 campaign.  

On day one of the Oberlin Tournament against Medaille, Dempsey scored 48 points on 15-of-20 shooting, which included hitting 7-of-8 three-point shots and 11-of-17 free throws.

Dempsey was named the Holiday Classic All-Tournament Most Valuable Player after scoring 105 total points on 68% shooting from the field (34-of-50) and adding six rebounds and six assists.

OAC - Women's Basketball Player of the Week - January 2, 2018

The Ohio Athletic Conference has named Muskingum senior Olivia Besancon the OAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

Besancon led the Muskies to a 3-1 record over the holiday break by averaging 20.5 points per contest. Over the four-game stretch, Besancon connected on 24-of-27 free throws, made 12 three-point shots, grabbed 15 rebounds and registered six assists and four steals. Her outstanding play was recognized at the Ohio Wesleyan Bishop Classic/Hoops for Hope Tournament where she named to the all-tournament team.

SAAC Muskies of the Month - November - 2017

The Muskingum Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has announced that football senior wide receiver Damon Jones and women's basketball senior guard Caitlyn Smith have been named the SAAC Muskies of the Month for November.

Jones, a Second Team All-Ohio Athletic Conference honoree, set the school record for receiving yards in a season with 875 yards on 49 receptions. Jones gathered 974 all-purpose yards (35 rushing, 875 receiving, and 64 punt return yards) and logged seven receiving touchdown passes, all of which ranked first on the team. He finished the season ranked fourth in the conference in receiving yards-per-game (87.5) and 11th in touchdowns. Throughout his career, he saw action in 39 games, registered 14 receiving touchdowns and had 1,818 receiving yards which ranks fourth all-time. 
 
Smith erupted for a career-high 22 points in Muskingum's win against Manchester. Against the Spartans, Smith hit 5-of-6 three-point shots and added four steals, four assists and three rebounds. Throughout the month, Smith averaged 11.7 points per game and shot .450 from the field and .500 from behind the arc.

SAAC Muskies of the Month - October - 2017

The Muskingum Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has announced that football senior defensive lineman Staci Wilson and women's soccer senior forward Miranda Bishop have been named the SAAC Muskies of the Month for October.

Wilson has anchored the Muskingum defensive line this season en route to recording 35 stops, including 4.5 tackles for loss. He also has recovered one fumble. Throughout his Muskie career, Wilson has racked up 99 tackles.
 
Bishop, an All-Ohio Athletic Conference Honorable Mention honoree, achieved a career-high this season with four goals and two assists for 10 points, which was tied for a team best. Throughout her four-year career, she recorded eight assists which ranks 12th all-time at Muskingum.
 

Nick Thomas
OAC - Football Defensive Player of the Week - October 23, 2017

Muskingum junior linebacker Nick Thomas was honored for his outstanding play on Saturday against Ohio Northern by being named the Ohio Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

Thomas helped lead the Muskie defense against the Polar Bears by racking up a career-best 12 tackles. He also notched two fumble recoveries, one interception and one pass break-up. His efforts propelled the Muskingum defense to force five turnovers and eight tackles for loss for 21 yards, which included two sacks.

On the year, Thomas has 31 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss.

SAAC Muskies of the Month - September - 2017

The Muskingum Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has announced that football freshman quarterback Brody Hahn and women's cross country freshman Rachel Timberlake have been named the SAAC Muskies of the Month for September.

Hahn set the school records for passing yards in a game and total offense in game against Otterbein. He passed for 364 yards and ended the game with 427 yards of total offense. He's the first player in Muskingum history to amass 400-plus yards of total offense.
 
Timberlake won the Muskie Invitational, finished 3rd at the Bethany Invitational, took 8th at the Heidelberg Invitational and captured 5th at the All-Ohio Championships, earning All-Ohio Honors. She was the top freshmen in the state for D3 at All-Ohio and clocked the second fastest 6K time in school history.
 

Brooke Fatheree
OAC - Volleyball Player of the Week - September 18, 2017

Freshmen volleyball player Brooke Fatheree was named the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Volleyball Player of the Week after helping the Muskies go a perfect 4-0 at the DePauw Invitational last weekend in Greencastle, Indiana.

Fatheree averaged 4.6 kills (55 total), three digs-per-set (36 total), and added seven total blocks. After having a stellar performance, she was named to the all-tournament team.

Fatheree has helped lead the way for the Muskies as they are now 11-1 on the season, the best start since the 2008 season. MU will hit the court again on Saturday, September 23rd at the Wittenberg Tri-Match in Springfield, Ohio as they take on Oberlin College at 2:00 p.m. and Wittenberg University at 4:00 p.m.


2016-17 Athletes of the Week

Julie Fobes and Luke Janci
SAAC Muskies of the Month - April - 2017

The Muskingum Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has announced that women's track senior Julie Fobes and men's golf senior Luke Janci have been named the SAAC Muskies of the Month for April.

Fobes earned two All-OAC honors at the OAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships with her second-place finish in the 5K and third-place finish in the 10K. She was named the Barbara Steiner Outstanding Senior Female Athlete, received the Donna J. Newberry Pursuit of Perfection Award and was the Muskingum Clyde Lamb female honoree.

Janci finished tied for 12th in the 40-golfer field at the OAC Men's Golf Championships to earn All-OAC accolades. He led the tournament in Par-3 scoring at +1 and was 15th in Par-5 scoring at -1. Janci also ranked second in eagles with one and tied for seventh in pars with 33.

SAAC Muskies of the Month - March - 2017

The Muskingum Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has announced that women's lacrosse junior Paige Watterman and men's track & field junior Blake Weidner have been named the SAAC Muskies of the Month for March. 

Watterman led the women's lacrosse team with 14 goals and eight assists. She scored a career-high four goals against Hiram and Thiel and recorded 10 ground balls throughout the month.

Weidner won the high jump (6-6) at the Muskie Duals, which set a meet record, and won the high jump (6-6) at the Muskingum Amy Adams Memorial Meet. He finished second in the high jump at the Slipper Rock Invitational with a mark of 6-4.75.

Weidner is currently ranked third in the OAC, fifth in the Great Lakes Region, and tied for 22nd in the country in the high jump. 

Mallory Taylor and Joshua Keyes
SAAC Muskies of the Month - February - 2017

The Muskingum Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has announced that women's basketball senior Mallory Taylor and men's basketball senior Joshua Keyes have been named the SAAC Muskies of the Month for February.  

Taylor, a Second Team All-Ohio Athletic Conference honoree, led the Muskies in points per game (12.4 ppg), rebounds per game (7.2 rpg) and ranked fourth in the league in blocks per game (1.0). On the season, she averaged 26 minutes per contest and registered 25 steals and 25 assists. The senior finished her college career with 948 points, 525 rebounds, 77 three-pointers, 64 blocks and eight double-doubles (points/rebounds). 

Keyes, a Second Team All-OAC honoree, ended his Muskie tenure as the school recorder holder in career blocks (143), single-season blocks (61), single-game blocks (6) and career rebounds (725).  He has tallied a career 24 double-doubles (points/rebounds), recorded 868 career points and grabbed 725 rebounds. The senior averaged 12.8 ppg and a league leading 11.3 rebounds per contest.

SAAC Muskies of the Month - January - 2017

The Muskingum Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has announced that women's track senior Julie Fobes and men's basketball sophomore Jarrell Marsh have been named the SAAC Muskies of the Month for January.  

Fobes helped lead the women's indoor track and field team by setting the school record in the mile with a time of 5:21 and by setting the school record in the 3K with a time of 10:41.

Marsh averaged 19.5 points and 5.1 rebounds per game to lead the men's basketball team.

OAC - Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week - January 16, 2017

The Ohio Athletic Conference has named senior Julie Fobes as the OAC Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.

Fobes finished first in the mile with a time of 5:21.84, just under a second off the school record.

The senior also notched a first place finish in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:28.80. Her performance helped Muskingum to a third-place finish at the Ohio Wesleyan Ron Althoff Classic Friday.

SAAC Muskie of the Month - December - 2016

The Muskingum Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has announced that women's basketball junior Hallie Stocker has been named the SAAC Muskie of the Month for December.  

Stocker averaged 10.4 points and 2.8 rebounds per game and helped lead the Muskies to the Sewanee Holiday Tournament Championship. Her strong play pushed the Muskies to a 6-2 record in December, which included a 3-1 mark in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

SAAC Muskies of the Month - November - 2016

The Muskingum Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has announced that sophomore wrestler Antonio Zapata and volleyball senior Katie Hunt have been named the SAAC Muskies of the Month for November. 

Zapata posted a 4-1 record and finished second in the 197-pound weight class at the Washington and Jefferson Tournament. He ranks second on the team in takedowns and escapes. 

Hunt led the Muskies to the Ohio Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament and ended the year with a team-best 322 kills. She also registered 75 blocks, 83 digs, 25 service aces and 24 assists. Hunt concluded her Muskie career ranked fifth all-time in kills at Muskingum with 1,026.

SAAC Muskies of the Month - October - 2016

The Muskingum Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has announced that football senior punter Samuel Green and cross country senior Julie Fobes have been named the SAAC Muskies of the Month for October.

Green leads the Ohio Athletic Conference in punting average and ranks 18th in NCAA Division III averaging 41.1 yards per punt. On the season, Green has 44 punts for 1,807yards and has placed 12 punts inside the 20. His long punt on the year is 53 yards.

Fobes led the women's cross country team at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships with a 15th-place finish to earn All-OAC honors. Earlier this season, Fobes set the school record in the 6K and has led the Muskies in every meet this year.

Austin Wilkinson
OAC - Men's Golfer of the Week - October 17, 2016

The Ohio Athletic Conference has announced that Muskingum senior Austin Wilkinson has been named the OAC Men's Golfer of the Week.

Wilkinson claimed a third place finish in the 35-golfer field at the Muskingum Fall Invitational held at EagleSticks G.C.  

The senior shot a season-best 145 (72-73) on the par 70 course tying a career-low 72 on day one of the invite.

He finished the outing ranked third in par 3 scoring, fourth in par 4 scoring and third in par 5 scoring at two-under.

Luke Janci
OAC - Men's Golfer of the Week - October 10, 2016

The Ohio Athletic Conference has announced that Muskingum senior Luke Janci has been named the OAC Men's Golfer of the Week.

Janci earned his first career medalist honor as he led the Muskies to a sixth place finish at the BSN Fall Invitational.

The senior shot a 216 (72-74-70) on the par 72 course recording a career-low 70 in the final round.

SAAC Muskies of the Month - September - 2016

The Muskingum Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has announced that men's soccer junior forward Trent Newby and women's soccer freshman forward Autumn Devine have been named the SAAC Muskies of the Month for September.

Newby leads the OAC in goals scored (8) and has tallied three game-winning goals. He also leads the team in points with 17 (8 goals, 1 assist). Newby was nominated as @HeroSports  Men's Soccer Athlete of the Week in Week 2 and finished in second in the national voting.

Devine tied the OAC record and set the Muskingum record for fastest goal to start a game with her strike in 14 seconds against Pikeville. She also recorded Muskingum's first hat trick (three goals) in a game since 2007. Devine leads the team in goals scored and points.

OAC - Men's Golfer of the Week - September 13, 2016

The Ohio Athletic Conference has announced that Muskingum junior Jacob Van Leeuwen has been named the OAC Men's Golfer of the Week.

Van Leeuwen earned his first career medalist honor as he led the Muskies to a third place finish at the Mount Union Invitational.

The junior shot a 145 (77-68) on the par 70 course recording a career-best 68 in the final round.

OAC - Football Special Teams Player of the Week - September 6, 2016

The Ohio Athletic Conference has named Muskingum senior punter Samuel Green the OAC Football Special Teams Player of the Week.

Green's outstanding play helped the Muskies win the the field possession battle and the game at Waynesburg.

The senior averaged 40.9 yards per punt and placed two punts inside the 20. His longest of the contest came in the fourth quarter when he delivered a 53-yard punt that landed inside the Waynesburg 30.

Darren McCaughan and Kelly Martin
SAAC Muskies of the Month - April - 2016

The Muskingum Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has announced that men's track freshman athlete Darren McCaughan and softball senior shortstop Kelly Martin have been named the SAAC Muskies of the Month for April.

McCaughan won the long jump at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships with a leap of 23-2, which is the third longest jump in school history. He currently ranks 21st in the nation. 

Martin hit .400 with 10 RBIs, three triples, three doubles and two home runs. She was also a perfect 6-for-6 in stolen bases.

OAC - Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week - April 11, 2016

The Ohio Athletic Conference has named Muskingum freshman Hailey Ferguson as the OAC Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.

Ferguson finished first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.24 and first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.53. Her performances helped Muskingum finish second at the Muskingum Invitational held at the Johnson Family Track in McConagha Stadium on Saturday.

SAAC Muskies of the Month - March - 2016

The Muskingum Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has announced that men's lacrosse sophomore goalie Phillip Dappen and softball sophomore outfielder Amy Clark have been named the SAAC Muskies of the Month for March.

Dappen started every game and made 71 saves en route to helping guide the Muskies to a pair of wins. 

Clark hit .362 with four home runs and 19 RBIs to lead the Muskies. She also belted seven doubles and scored nine runs, while starting and playing every inning.

OAC - Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week - March 28, 2016

The Ohio Athletic Conference has announced that Muskingum sophomore Nick Despot has been named the OAC Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week.

Despot captured first in the javelin with a season-best throw of 159-4 at the Muskingum Amy Adams Memorial Invitational. His performance helped lead the Muskies to a third-place finish and marked his second straight top-three finish of the spring.

SAAC Muskies of the Month - February - 2016

The Muskingum Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has announced that men's track & field senior athlete Chris Lardie and women's lacrosse sophomore Ashley Adams have been named the SAAC Muskies of the Month for February.

Lardie finished second in the triple jump at the Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Championships to earn All-OAC honors. His mark was 43-4.50.

Adams scored five goals, registered one assist, had eight ground balls, five draw controls and caused four turnovers against Thomas More. Her efforts helped lead Muskingum to its first program win and set a record for most goals scored in a game.

Joshua Keyes
OAC - Men's Basketball Player of the Week - January 11, 2016

Muskingum junior Joshua Keyes was honored for his outstanding play last week by being named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week.

Keyes recorded one of the most dominating performances in Muskingum history with his career-high 36-point, 21-rebound night to lead the Muskies against Case Western last Wednesday in the Rec Center. He ended the evening hitting 14-of-23 shots, which included a pair of three-pointers and a perfect 6-of-6 display at the free throw line. Keyes also added two blocks, two steals and one assist to his highlight-reel effort.

Keyes followed up his career night with an 11-rebound, seven-point, three-assist, two-block and one-steal outing against seventh-ranked John Carroll on Saturday.

On the week, Keyes averaged 21.5 points and 16 rebounds per game.

SAAC Muskies of the Month - January - 2016

The Muskingum Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has announced that men's track & field junior athlete Andre Buffington and women's basketball junior forward Mallory Taylor have been named the SAAC Muskies of the Month for January.

Buffington won the Ohio Wesleyan Tri-Meet on January 15 and Ohio Athletic Conference Split Meet on January 25 in the weight throw. His mark of 49-11 at Ohio Wesleyan is the third-best throw in school history. 

Taylor led the Muskies averaging 13.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game during the month. Overall, she leads the team averaging 12 points per game and is second on the squad averaging 5.6 rebounds per outing.

SAAC Muskies of the Month - December - 2015

The Muskingum Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has announced that men's track & field sophomore athlete Darrell Briggs and women's track & field freshman athlete Hailey Ferguson have been named the SAAC Muskies of the Month for December.

Briggs led the Muskingum men's indoor track & field team at the Mount Union Toy Drive Invitational by breaking his own school record in the 60-meter hurdles. Briggs recorded a time of 8.52 to break his previous record of 8.59 he set in 2015.

Ferguson paced the Muskingum women's indoor track & field team at the Mount Union Toy Drive Invitational by setting the school record in the 60-meter dash in her first collegiate meet with a time of 8.33. The previous record was 8.39, which Deanna Dobos set in 2009.

SAAC Muskies of the Month - November - 2015

The Muskingum Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has announced that men's basketball freshman guard Jalen Paige and women's basketball sophomore guard Olivia Besancon have been named the SAAC Muskies of the Month for November.

Paige was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week after the opening weekend of play and leads the Muskies and ranks eighth in the league averaging 15.5 points per game. He ranks third in the conference in field goal shooting percentage (30-of-51/.588), three-point shooting percentage (9-of-16/.563) and in assists per game (4.8).

Besancon leads Muskingum and ranks third in the OAC averaging 19.7 points per game. She ranks second in the league in three-point field goal shooting percentage (15-of-25/.600) and 10th in field goal shooting percentage (19-of-37/.514). Besancon was honored for her player earlier in the season when she was named to the Allegheny All-Tournament team.

Henry Alexander III
OAC - Football Defensive Player of the Week - November 16, 2015

Muskingum freshman defensive back Henry Alexander III has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Football Defensive Player of the Week.

With Wilmington driving for the go-ahead score in the waning seconds of the first half, Alexander III intercepted Luke Creditt's pass and raced 98 yards for a touchdown to change the complexion of the game and give the Muskies a 35-26 lead at the break. The scoring play is one of the longest in the history of Muskingum football that dates back to 1895.

Alexander III ended the game with five tackles and helped Muskingum end its season with a 49-35 win.

Jalen Paige
OAC - Men's Basketball Player of the Week - November 16, 2015

The Ohio Athletic Conference has named Muskingum freshman guard Jalen Paige the OAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week.

Paige made his collegiate debut with a team-high 24 points and a team-best seven assists. He connected on 7-of-10 field goals, which included hitting 3-of-4 three-point shots. Paige also made 7-of-11 free throw attempts, grabbed four rebounds and notched one steal in 38 minutes of action.

His outstanding play helped propel Muskingum to a thrilling 90-83 season-opening overtime win against Waynesburg.

Sam Lucas and Taylor Mathews
SAAC Muskies of the Month - October -2015

The Muskingum Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has announced that football senior offensive lineman Sam Lucas and volleyball sophomore setter Taylor Mathews have been named the SAAC Muskies of the Month for October.

Lucas is the anchor and leader of the Muskie offensive line. He is a two-year captain and two-year All-OAC honoree. This season, Lucas has helped the Muskies churn out 253.6 yards of offense per game.

Mathews was named the OAC Volleyball Player of the Week after helping to lead the Muskies to a 3-0 record during the final week of the regular season. The strong finish propelled Muskingum into the OAC Tournament as the four-seed. Mathews leads the team with 996 assists and ranks fourth in the OAC.

Taylor Mathews
OAC - Volleyball Player of the Week - November 2, 2015

Muskingum sophomore setter Taylor Mathews was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week.

Mathews helped lead the Muskies to a 3-0 record during the final week of the regular season. The strong finish propelled Muskingum into the OAC Tournament as the four-seed. Muskingum won every match in straight sets against Wilmington, John Carroll and Denison.

Mathews recorded 125 assists and averaged 13.9 assists per set. She also added 32 digs, seven kills and three service aces.

Zach Barry and Hailey Dickey
SAAC Muskies of the Month - September - 2015

The Muskingum Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has announced that football senior linebacker Zach Barry and women's soccer senior defender Hailey Dickey have been named the SAAC Muskies of the Month for September.

Barry led the Muskingum defense in total tackles and ranked second in the Ohio Athletic Conference in tackles averaging 12.3 stops per game. He was also tied for first in the league in fumble recoveries with one. Barry was named the Muskie Defensive Player of the Game in two of Muskingum’s three contests. 

Dickey led the Muskies with three goals, while anchoring the the backline. She peppered 20 shots and registered one game-winning strike. Dickey helped lead the Muskies to first-place finish at the Scarlet Hawk Classic in Chicago with a 1-0-1 mark. Following the tournament, Dickey was named to the all-tournament team

Kelly Martin
OAC - Softball Hitter of the Week - March 23, 2015

The Ohio Athletic Conference has named Muskingum junior Kelly Martin the OAC Softball Hitter of the Week.

Martin hit .500 (7-of-14) last week with 11 RBIs, six runs, two home runs and two doubles to help lead the Muskies to a 3-1 record. 

She helped Muskingum set the school record for runs in a game and runs in an inning (22) during Muskingum's 37-1 five-inning crushing of John Carroll on Saturday. In that game, Martin went 3-for-5 with seven RBIs, four runs scored and belted one grand slam.

Logan Kimble
OAC - Men's Basketball - December 22, 2014 

Muskingum senior Logan Kimble was honored for his outstanding play last week by being named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week.

Kimble averaged 22 points, 6.5 rebounds, four steals and 2.5 assists per outing during Muskingum's two-game span last week.

He scored 21 points on the road at Otterbein and ended the week with 23 points at home against Ohio Northern on 7-of-12 shooting from the field and 8-of-9 shooting from the free throw line.

On the year, Kimble leads the team and ranks second in the OAC averaging 15.8 points per game.

Chaney Fulton
OAC - Football - Defensive Player of the Week - November 10, 2014 

The Ohio Athletic Conference has named Muskingum junior linebacker Chaney Fulton the OAC Football Defensive Player of the Week.

Fulton's outstanding play helped propel Muskingum to a 17-13 Senior Day win against rival Marietta on Saturday in McConagha Stadium. The victory also pushed Muskingum's all-time record in the Shriner series against Marietta to 6-0.

Fulton, who helped lead the Muskie defense that held Marietta to just 14 yards in the opening half, ended the contest with a game-high 11 tackles with 2.5 tackles for loss for 19 yards and 1.5 sacks.

This marks the second time this season that Fulton has been honored with OAC Football Defensive Player of the Week accolades.

Chaney Fulton
OAC - Football - Defensive Player of the Week - September 29, 2014 

The Ohio Athletic Conference has named Muskingum junior linebacker Chaney Fulton the OAC Defensive Player of the Week.

Fulton registered a game-high 13 stops, with 3.5 tackles for loss and one sack, while also adding a fumble recovery and one pass break-up to help lead the Muskingum defensive effort in Muskingum's 36-20 win against Capital on Saturday evening.

Capital entered the outing averaging 400.5 yards per game rushing, which ranked third in NCAA Division III. The Muskie defense answered the challenge and held the Crusaders to 169 yards rushing on 46 attempts. The defense ended the night with four sacks for 25 yards, two fumble recoveries and one interception

Moriah Mathies
OAC - Women's Soccer - September 15, 2014

For the second consecutive week and for the first time in program history, Muskingum senior Moriah Mathies has been named Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week.

With the honor, Mathies becomes the first-ever Muskie dating back to 1987 to be recognized as the OAC Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks.

Mathies tallied three goals and two assists last week to help propel Muskingum to a 2-0 week of play and set the school record for longest unbeaten streak (5-0-1) in a season.

Against Franciscan, she scored two goals and added an assist to help lead Muskingum to a 4-2 win. Against Mount St. Joseph, Mathies registered one goal and one assist to help Muskingum post a 3-0 shutout victory.

Mathies, who leads the OAC in goals (8), assists (5) and points (21), ranks fifth all-time at Muskingum in career points (42), fifth in assists (12) and sixth in goals (15).

Mathies was also recognized as the OAC Player of the Week on September 8 following her four-goal and one-assist outburst.

Moriah Mathies
OAC - Women's Soccer - September 8, 2014

Muskingum senior captain Moriah Mathies was honored for her stellar play last week by being named the Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week.

Mathies erupted for four goals and one assist to help lead Muskingum to a 2-0 week of play.

Mathies scored two goals against Bethany to propel Muskingum to a 3-1 win. Against Thiel, she scored two goals and had an assist to lead Muskingum to a 3-1 Parents' Day victory. Mathies had the game-winning goal in both contests.

Following her offensive surge, Mathies etched her name into the Muskingum record book. She now ranks sixth in career goals with 12, sixth in career points with 34 and seventh in career assists with 10.

Brett Hanna
OAC - Men's Soccer - September 8, 2014

The Ohio Athletic Conference has announced that Muskingum junior Brett Hanna has been named OAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week.

Hanna's outstanding play helped lead Muskingum to a 2-0 record last week.

He scored the game-winning tally in Muskingum's 2-1 win at Mount St. Joseph and added two goals and an assist in Muskingum's 4-2 win against Thiel.

Brett Robberts
D3baseball - Team of the Week - April 29, 2014

Muskingum sophomore Brett Robberts has been honored for his outstanding play last week by being named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week.

Robberts helped lead the Muskies to a 4-1 record last week after hitting .500 (13-of-26) with seven RBIs, seven runs scored, two doubles and one home run. He ended the week with a .692 slugging percentage.

On the year, Robberts leads the Muskies with a .415 batting average with a team-best 54 hits, 23 RBIs, 12 doubles and three home runs.

Marty Vajen
OAC - Men's Outdoor Track & Field - March 31, 2014

The Ohio Athletic Conference has named Muskingum sophomore Marty Vajen as the OAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week.

Vajen helped lead the men's track & field team at the rain-soaked Marietta Invitational on Saturday. Vajen won the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.7 seconds to pace the Muskie track competitors.

Dave Brown
OAC - Men's Basketball - February 3, 2014 

The Ohio Athletic Conference has announced that Muskingum senior Dave Brown was named the OAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week.

Brown broke the Muskingum record for consecutive free throws made when he connected on his 45th straight free throw during the second half at John Carroll on Saturday. He entered the game with 35 consecutive free throws made. The previous school mark of 38 was set by Zach Ross during the 2003-04 campaign.

On the week, Brown led the Muskies averaging 23 points per game.

Tanisha Ford 
OAC - Women's Indoor Track & Field - January 27, 2014

The Ohio Athletic Conference has named Muskingum senior Tanisha Ford as the OAC Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.

Ford broke the school record in the weight throw at the Denison lid-lifter meet on Saturday with a toss of 54-1.25. The mark, which ranks eighth in the nation, broke the previous school record of 50-8.75 that Ford set in 2013.

Christian Keller
OAC - Men's Basketball - November 18, 2013

The Ohio Athletic Conference has named Muskingum sophomore Christian Keller the OAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week.

Keller scored a career-high 33 points to lead Muskingum past Oberlin in its season opener on Sunday. He hit 10-of-17 from the field, including draining 7-of-8 three-point shots. He also added five assists, four rebounds and one steal.

Alvin Taylor
OAC - Football - Special Teams Player of the Week - November 18, 2013
Muskingum senior receiver Alvin Taylor was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.

Taylor had a 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the first quarter against rival Marietta. The return is the second longest in Muskingum history.  

Damond Goggins
OAC - Football - Defensive Player of the Week - November 18, 2013
Muskingum junior linebacker Damond Goggins was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

Goggins garnered the honor after recording a 13-tackle performance in the Muskies' Senior Day win against the Pioneers.

Muskingum freshman defensive back Dominick Williams' Punt Return of the Year for a touchdown that propelled Muskingum into the national spotlight has been named the D3football.com Play of the Week.

Williams electrified McConagha Stadium on Saturday, October 26 with a dazzling 74-yard punt return for a touchdown against Heidelberg.

The phenomenal return has been featured on ESPN [click here], ESPNU, ESPN.com, FoxSports 1, SI.com's Extra Mustard, USA Today, Yahoo Sports and deadspin.com.

The highlight has also gone viral on YouTube as it approaches 500,000 views.

Wes Rataiczak
D3football.com - Team of the Week - October 8, 2013
Muskingum University senior tight end Wes Rataiczak was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week.

Rataiczak had nine receptions for 112 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winning grab in overtime vs. Wilmington, helping Muskingum achieve its 500th win as a program. 

On the year, Rataiczak has caught 17 passes for 202 yards and two scores.

Samuel Green
OAC - Football - Special Teams - October 7, 2013

The Ohio Athletic Conference has announced that Muskingum University freshman punter Samuel Green was named the OAC Football Special Teams Player of the Week.

Green averaged 43.8 yards in six attempts in a 35-28 overtime victory over Wilmington. Green’s longest punt of game was 54 yards and he had two punts land inside the Wilmington 20-yard line to help the Muskie football program reach 500 wins.

On the year, Green ranks 2nd in the OAC averaging 41 yards a punt.

Andreas Pfefferkorn
OAC - Men's Soccer - September 9, 2013
The Ohio Athletic Conference has announced that Muskingum University freshman forward Andreas Pfefferkorn was named OAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week.

Pfefferkorn led the Muskies to a pair of wins against the College of Wooster and Manhattanville College last week. He scored four goals on eight shots, with six strikes being on frame.

Pfefferkorn, who recorded both game-winning tallies, is tied the lead in the OAC in goals scored this season with five.
